'A Bridge Too Far': Analysis Points to Bleeding Risks From Anticoagulation Bridging in AF

On this Medscape site there are some articles on starting and stopping anticoagulants. This one article and others noted at the left of this article.

Sorry, bit thick, but what does it mean when it says Bridging Anticoagulation or Bridging Therapy ?

That's interesting. Baiscally it means stopping anticoagulation and using an alternative antocoagulant such as heparin gives poor results. Surely far better to just continue the standard anti-coagulant such as warfarin and let the surgeon worry about the bleeding risk (which is usually exaggerated anyway).

I understand now, thanks Mark. Like Jo, I just carried straight through with Warfarin for my last ablation, in fact they increased my dose prior to the procedure.
