3 Month post ablation appointment

I have had my three month review with the EP following the ablation proceedure in June.

Over the three months, I had some episodes of AF for the first weeks and a bout of fast but regular heart beats at the end of the third week.

Since then only ectopics and a few very short (10 seconds or less) runs of palpitations. These have diminished over the last four weeks or so and the jittery/ nervous feeing I had on the inside has also calmed down. I stopped taking Bispropol at week 8 and have only been on Apixipan anticoagulant since.

The EP was very pleased with progress and put the initial wobbles down to the disturbance to the heart etc as a result of the proceedure.

He considered that this indicated the proceedure had been a success but wants me to monitor for the next nine months. If there is another episode of AF then there may be a need for a "top up" ablation as there could be a tiny gap in the scar tissue around the pulmonary veins. At this stage he did not think this would be required.

The issue of continuing anticoagulation was discussed. With a CHADSVASC score of 1, his recommendation was to continue with the Apixapan though it was up to me. I f, after the full one year there has been no return of Af the anticoagualant could be withdrawn (if all other factors are the same). I am happy to go along with the advice and continue with the Apixapan.

So overall I am feeling pretty good and rather pleased. However, I know I could have another episode of AF later today, tomorrow, next week...., so its a case of still early days and see how it goes.

Best wishes to all and thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum

Regards

Dave

That is really good news Dave. My only reservation is that more and more EPs are of the opinion that anticoagulation is for life as there is as yet no firm evidence that ablation removes the risk. In fact the scar tissue created could itself add to the risk some think.

Stay well.

Thanks for all the comments on my 3 month update. They are all very much appreciated.

Although I don't post that much on this forum it is an invaluable resource for all of us who are on the AF journey.

As I have said before, when I had AF the first time around 20 years ago you were on your own.

I wish you all well for the future as I continue to follow your posts.

All the best

Dave
