Another aspirin study

This could be of interest to some people. This study supports the use of aspirin for anti-coagulation in some situations. What to believe.

Hi Eng Mac

That's not for AF according to the link but VTEs, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolisms.

The NICE advice stands as no aspirin for AF. If you have to be anti-coagulated then only anti-coagulants.

VTEs form a different type of clot I understand.

Be well

Ian

Thanks for the reply. I put this in a post in case some people have VTEs and because of the following line in the article. There still seems to be study results that show aspirin has a benefit. I expect this quandary about aspirin may go on forever.

"In addition, aspirin was associated with a reduction in major vascular events, defined as recurrent VTE, MI, stroke or CV death (placebo group, 8.7%/year; aspirin group, 5.7%/year; HR=0.66; 95% CI, 0.5-0.86)."

The study seems to show Asprin was better than nothing ( the placebo) but was not recommended to replace anti coagulation but for those who stopped anticoagulation for various reasons. as Ian says , it shouldn't be used for AF.......

What's a VTE?
