Hi, I have been nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge. Does anyone know if it would be dangerous as I have now had 3 episodes of AF.?

Thanks, Jan

I wouldn't risk it - just make a donation!

I did it on Sunday, but I'm already two weeks into an episode. I think Jennydog is right, if you are unsure, then just make a donation. It's for a very worthwhile charity.

I was wondering the same thing and have decided to play safe and make a donation.x

I say don't do it! My big AF episode began with an icy drink which I believe is fairly common.

If you have AF right now though, plunging one's face into icy water is on the list of things to try doing to bring you back into NSR so it could be worth a try!

I think it is an irresponsible think like so many facebook challenges and only a fool, would be succkered into it.

You gotta be kidding! No way José. Unless you asked them to warm the water up first :-)

Personally I wouldn't want to do this as its just asking for it. Unless maybe do two ice buckets one to put you in AF and the other to put you back in NSR. :-D Sometimes we have to be selfish and do I what's best for ourselves. Make a donation.

Don't feel obliged to do it just because you have been nominated. Think of yourself first.

Personally, I wouldn't do it whether I had AF or not, had an ablation or not etc. I think it is something thought up by self centered celebrities and social media etc - but then that the Victor Meldrew coming out in me!

I agree make a donation to the well worthwhile cause.

No way Jose'. I've watched my son, his wife, other family members and their friends do it. The shock of the cold water was horrendous. I'm almost 3 months post ablation and I wouldn't risk it, the shock of iced water would be too much.

I have been nominated, by my son, and am refusing to do it. Tend to think it is quite self seeking and social media driven. I have said also that I won't be doing it as it wouldn't be sensible with AF. Am making a donation to charity x

I wont do it for the following reasons....

More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world.

Lack of access to clean water and sanitation kills children at a rate equivalent of a jumbo jet crashing every four hours.

780 million people lack access to a clean water source; approximately one in nine people on the planet.

(Source - water.org)

So yeah, go dump a bucket of water over your head to raise money for a charity BUT think about the bigger picture. All that water from all those ice bucket challenges could save a lot of lives.

As a water industry journalist I'm applauding wildly. And I have already told my family not to nominate me!

Well said. We waste so much of our precious resources without thinking.

Pleased president Obama refused to do it...C

Sensible and educated comments from everyone. I just don't get it. Donations to chosen charities are one thing. Idiotic, wasteful and potentially dangerous pranks are another. It brings the grumpy old man out in me!
