Hi everyone for the sake of brevity a brief summary of my recent Ablation.
Thank you Jenny dog for your advice.First thing l did on admission was to set my "stall" out on trolley right side of bed.This provided a platform for necessities without having to strain myself...All set out ,toiletries ,water,energy bar,mobile phone,kindle and charger...aaah and not forgetting the vasaline which l smeared around and on the inside of lips just before procedure....Hence no cracked lips..
I was 5 hrs in the lab Dr Gupta and Dr Das performing ablation .
Back on the ward just after 6.00pm chest sore after TOE but given pain relief....Didn't sleep at all that night and was on the phone a substantial amount of time as some of you know....!!!!!!
No bruising at all and as Dr Das explained this is a revolutionary new method pioneered by Dr Wynn of Liverpool heart and chest hospital locating the pulmonary veins by ultra sound and shall be available soon throughout the UK. Not a hint of a bruise and no sign at all of the three puncture holes in the groin..
Well there you are not exactly a "breeze" l would say more of a "whirlwind" but all "done and dusted" will keep you all posted with future updates of my progress...
Hope you are all keeping well and for those amongst you waiting for an Ablation or taking your time deciding like I did just go for it and don't waste time allowing the condition to progress.....Nothing to loose but possibly a lot to gain...
Good to hear it went well, one thing I suffered with the most was the extensive bruising and some leg numbness for 2 weeks after...... so I was too soon for the revolution!
I saw shocked when l saw pic of your leg and was expecting mine to be the same.Was very surprised when it wasn't.( did have to keep leg still for 4hrs as l expect was the same for you) mentioned this to Dr.Das prior/post ablation and he explained why it wasn't bruised...
I have been following your progress over the past couple of weeks and see you are off work for two more weeks...Don't go back until fit.C
I'm feeling good this week, had a long (6 hour) day "on the go" yesterday to a hospital appt and funeral so I was really tired last night, but not feeling too bad today.
I had been wondering quite how they located the pulmonary veins. I'm also confused as to why I didn't have the expected TOE. When I asked I was told that it was because I already had a pipe down my trachea.
I am 8 days ahead of you, Carol. My best advice is that you will need to pace yourself otherwise you will end up exhausted.

I had GA taking some time to get out of my system and hallucinating for day or two seeing pink cows with ribbons in there tails floating around room.That is the honest truth ....quite common l believe (not always cows though can be anything) haha Don't worry l am fine now....(almost)
Hihihi! Glad you are feeling sprightly Carol and that the procedure seems to have gone well. Excellent news. And as for the pink cows.....nothing to worry about! Have you ever been to the Latitude Festival and seen the herd of brightly coloured sheep they have there?
"Sprightly" is not quite the adjective to describe me if you had seen me 5 days ago.However,getting stronger each day and heart very very calm now without meds for 12 days...So l am touching everything that is wood...
Honestly the procedure is nothing to be scared of and great not to be thinking of meds all the time...I know it's early days yet and "slowly slowly catch um monkeys"
Aaah interesting you should mention Latitude festival ...was at the Steiner summer garden party and picked up a very nice latitude festival baseball cap from one of the stalls...coincidence hey...
Wow! Fascinating. You sound in good spirits though. I am having sedation. I have had no choice in the matter otherwise I may well have said G.A.x

Seriously now from what l have read you will not feel anything with the sedation ...from what people say they drift in and out of sleep during the Ablation and don't feel any pain....l was in the lab 5 hrs which is rather a long time probably due to taking part in a research trial performing two methods of Ablating...
I am resting and not doing much but had a set back a couple of days with an AF episode that lasted 12hrs which was disappointing ,in normal rhythm again now but having said that l am off all meds now apart from Warfarin...
I shall follow your posts with interest ..It's such a relief when it's all over as you know Dedeottie I have "dithered and dallied" for months over "shall l or shant l" l will have no qualms about having a second if need be.Cx
