I went to see anEP and was first interviewed by his Heart Rhythm Nurse Specialist. Her subsequent report stated " Mrs C is aware of increased MICTURITION ."
I had to get the Oxford Dictionary out. What did it mean? What had I admitted? The answer was just one word URINATION
She had raised the subject so she was obviously aware that it was an issue.
I do not normally have to get up in the night but if I have to get up 3 or 4 times and produce a substantial amount each time then I know that I will have a poor day of AF.
Some days I produce very little. Is this because I 'm dehydrated? I can't work it out.
I cut added salt out 33 years ago. Am I sodium deficient? Should I increase my liquid intake? Is pure water better than tea and decaf coffee?
Any comments would be appreciated.

This is an old chestnut. The distressed heart emits an enzyme which tell the body to get rid of salt so you P more whilst in AF. For goodness sake don't take extra salt! For the record Tea is actually higher by weight in caffeine than coffee so I always drink decaf Tea as well. My shamen always tells me to drink bottled water not tap water and at least 2 litres a day but that is difficult sometimes especially since I have such a small capacity since prostate cancer.. Mind you,, not sure what happened today but I just drove home to Barnstaple from Streatley On Thames without having to stop!

Are you on any drugs Jenny? Mine make me urinate more often. That's a new word on me as well !!!
10mg Bisoprolol, Simvastatin and warfarin ( very stable at 2.2) I don't drink alcohol - I don't like the taste and it makes me sleepy. AF getting worse. Ablation or pacemaker to be decided by EP next month.
If only we could use salt licks like your stock do!
I also have frequent micturition during AF. Why use a wee word (pardon pun) when you can use a big one!
After some particularly bad episodes I felt even worse than usual and noticed that I wasn't able to sweat and was literally burning up. So, I started licking salt now and then and it did make be feel better. I read Bob's post on a previous thread and decided to stop taking extra salt - normally I never add it to food, don't eat processed stuff, so it is an issue for me too.
It's something I have on my list of questions for the cardiologist next week . . .
I knew what it meant! But thanks for this, as didn't realise that my weeping more in the night was to do with my AF and the reason for it. I am like you Jennydog, seem to be able to produce quite an amount at night.
Hi jennydog,In my case it,s down to age as you get older you p more,but my GP told me tea and coffee go through your system quicker than water which i have found to be true so i don,t have these before i go out walking i last longer after water
I pee litres during a bad AF episode. And sometimes I no sooner get back to my bed or chair when I feel the urge to go again. During an episode whilst in A&E and awaiting a bed on the ward I almost flooded the commode. I then was wheeled up to the cardiac ward and called again for the commode. The nurse dealing with it then demanded to know how long it had been since I last peed, as she was having to cope with 750cc and couldn't believe my bladder was that big!
You made me laugh so much. I tend to drink the same amount of liquid each day so know approx when I need the loo. AF makes me produce so much unexpected urine that I'm left wondering where it's all coming from. It's all very well for people to make light of it but it's an alarming phenomenon ! I'm glad it's not just me!!!
