how come the pulse is so low but the BP is normal?

my pulse is around 48-53 but my BP looks aroung 100/60 , but i felt horrible ?im linking that to sotalol if im right or my asthma inhaler i used it yesterday only due to chess tightness

Hi Maitha - It sounds as though your sotalol is taking your pulse and BP down too low. Rather than reduce to one tablet a day, as you suggest elsewhere on this site, why not try a half twice daily and only taking the higher dose if you go into AF? Are you able to talk to your GP to make him aware of how you are feeling?

I used to take sotalol as a 'pill in the pocket' and they always used to make me feel faint, light headed and drained. My GP said it was because they took pulse and BP down too low.

They are making me very tired , headache and lightheaded

I started sotalol after ablation by half dose twice but it did not work then as full dose in the morning and half in the evening then I started to have SVT afternoon , then doctor suggested to have a second dose in the afternoon but it is really too much for me

I will meet my cardiologist today and suggest your recommendation , it sounds reasonable for me

The good news I didn't have any AF episodes since the ablation , but a few short SVT and ectopic beats

Or maybe try another drug since I'm having asthma these days because of beta lockers

I too couldn't take Sotalol because of my Asthma. In fact all beta-blockers are bad news for Asthmatics. At the moment I am now on Diltiazem slow release capsules and things are much easier to manage and the dizziness is now minimal and I am not so tired.

Don't know if a change from beta-blockers will help you, but I am just so pleased they stopped mine. I still cannot take relief inhaler without upsetting my heart beat but the preventer (Qvar breath activated) inhaler is keeping the asthma O.K.

Hi Maitha,

My situation is similar to you in as much as my rate is around 45 with B.P 90/60 and feel awful.

I take 7'5mg of Bisoprolo and 5mg of Flecainide per day.

Yesterday, just as an experiment, I took no Flecainide and had a really good day, I felt great,walked over 9000 steps (according the step monitor I carry around in my pocket) without any problems. I've made an appoint to discuss my findings tomorrow with the GP

Maybe we both need to adjust our medication

Patients can really advise the suitable dose for their own bodies based on experience

i already reduced my afternoon dose of sotalol to 40 mg and still the morning is 80 mg since I'm working and having more stress during the morning , im not on any other medication right now rather than warfarin

felcainade didnt work for me to prevent AF but made the epysoids more sever

Sorry Maitha although I agree that patients know their own bodies best, no one should play with their medication without letting the dr,s know because if anything happens they do not know what doses you are on and that could lead to more complications. Am all for managing yourself but do keep them in the loop
