Wondering if the dizziness from Verapamil lessens the longer you're on it?

I've been taking it for three weeks (only 90mg daily) and the head spins are driving me crazy, especially when getting up from sitting, or squatting, which as a teacher I do constantly. And it's not practical to get up slowly, or I'd take all day to correct kids' work.

Can't answer that from experience, but in your shoes I would contact the gp and see if you can change meds

Hi Kdee,

Sometimes it does take a while to get used to the new medication. And you have already partly answered your own question. No matter what medication you are on that can lower your blood pressure you may get symptoms of something called postural hypotension, which just means that when you stand up quickly your blood pressure can drop and so getting up more slowly is the ticket to preventing that. I suggest that my patients jiggle their legs just before getting up from a chair to get the blood flowing up to their upper body before they stand. Being a teacher, I totally get it that that is not any easy thing to do. Talk to your provider and see if another drug that is as effective might work for you, but this is a very common complaint.

Unfortunately, the dizziness may persist. Do you have hypertension? Do you have eye or ear conditions? There are some conditions that cause dizziness when bending over. I have learned to ease down by coming into a semi squat position. It may be of some use.
