Heart Rhythm Society - interesting article on line.

Just been looking at an article on the Heart Rhythm Society website entitled 'Multiple studies show promise for innovative treatment for AF'. Article dated May 2013. It is discussing FIRM (localised Focal Impulse and Rotor Modulation).

I have read about this before and seen a you tube clip a while ago. I found it interesting and thought it worth sharing with the forum.

Have a look at the HRS website. See what you think, I am interested in your thoughts/views/comments etc.

Dee,

Thanks for the article...

Dr. Narayan is just completing 1 of 3 current studies going on with FIRM. Things actuall look pretty positive but the results of the studies won't be compiled and possibly published early next year. If things go as usual then they will study the studies and then do more studies to confirm the results of the studies. The final results could take a few years to be published and then who knows when they actually start offering them for treatment. The olny hope for having one done in the next 5 to 10 years would be to take part in the study.

Here is a link t his page on stopafib org.

I asked my ep about this earlier this month. He is aware of it and thinks that they may be using this equipment in a year or so. I was asking as wondering if I should delay ablation. He said I should go ahead by if I need a second one this equipment may be in use by then. Marie

Thanks Tim and Marie for your replies. I am sure over time new procedures and treatments will become available. The sooner the better for all of us. Hope your EP is, right time wise, about the technique we are discussing.

Good health on this beautiful warm sunny day (assuming you are in Britain!).

Regards

Dee.

My understanding of the Firm procedure is that it isn't intended for Paroxysmal A Fib, more for persistent AF where the AF has spread to more areas of the heart. This procedure then targets what they call "focal" areas to eliminate the problem.
