If you've had an ablation procedure, did you feel that you received adequate support before and after the procedure? Please explain further.

I felt well prepared and the immediate after care was excellent. The hospital rang me 2 days after returning home to check on everything. I don't feel that there was enough opportunity to speak with the consultant after the procedure and as everything didn't go exactly to plan I was left feeling I needed more explanation of what happened. I also need ongoing contact for reassurance and support and I am unclear how to get that.

Had my ablation at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle on Tues 25/02/14 and was treated brilliantly by everyone. My cardiologist/EP was excellent at explaining everything that would be happening to me.The day after the procedure I was allowed home. I was visited by an arrhythmia specialist nurse prior to discharge who guided me through what support was available to me and he even gave me his card with 3 telephone numbers on which I could ring anytime if I was worried about any possible AF events. All in all, a good experience and if a second PVI is necessary then I would certainly be prepared to undergo one.
I can only echo what kenthynne said about the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. I've had four ablations and was treated brilliantly. The only trouble is that none of these these together with seven cardioversions has cured me and I'm still I AF. I was diagnosed in 2007, getting a bit fed-up now.
There is much room for improvement, and it all depends where you live and whether you get to see a qualified Heart specialist, EPs are rare in Rural areas. You have to push hard to see them, do it before your get older if possible, so you can manage all the right things to say without confusing them. Do not be afraid of them, most of us who were born in the 30s and 40s have been brought up to respect all we are told. Try to change, they(the medics) can not read beneath the lines, just like anyone else, so ask ask and ask again, questions as many times as you like, you are not wasting there time. Final note, A/F is still hard to control, so there is no standard procedure to cure this, we all tell a different story to the specialist, who in turn try what they know to date to help, sometimes it does sometimes it will not, so do not give up.

Had my ablation done last August at Blackpool hospital,No problem with the operation and staff were brilliant,but after getting home got a letter saying they would see me in January for a follow up and pass my papers on to Blackburn for a follow up check on my pacemaker in two months.Had to ring up after ten weeks as had not heard anything and got an apology and an appointment arranged for later.Then got the follow up for ablation moved to Blackburn at my request but had to wait another two months till March to see consultant.When I went in to see him(He only does a surgery it seems at Blackburn every 2 months) he just said give me two secs to read your papers every thing went well so i,m going to discharge you shook my hand and said goodby.Even though he said everything went well I,m still not feeling brilliant and i,ve been thrust back on my poor GP.
I have just moved to south Wales from Blackburn and now realise how poorly I was treated at Blackburn compared to here. The waiting lists are long in south Wales but my overall care has been fab.x
Had my ablation at Birmingham QE. Top notch treatment and aftercare, couldn't fault it.
I had excellent care at Harefeild Hospital.Everything explained before my procedure and the after care was 100%.I had to stay in for 4 days because of a very fast heart beat and once discharged i had the Arrhythmia nurse on the phone everyday for the first week checking all was well and if not she would ask my EP doctor for advice.I still have a call every 2-3 days .Its been 4 weeks since my Ablation and will be having another once my heart has healed but i have no worries about the procedure and the care i will receive.
Had ablation done in jan this yrs at Oxford ,staff explained everything to me made me feel at ease eventually , was giving lots of info for after , and have check ups every 3 months at min also lots of info before
I had excellent support and treatment after my ablation in July at Q E Hospital Bham
