Good afternoon everyone. I’m about to add several natural items to my daily pill intake.

I also started taking 2 tablespoons of papaya leaf extract a day this week to hopefully increase my platelets. In addition to the supplements in the ohoto I’m taking 60mg of melatonin a day

The attached photo shows the recommended amounts from a cancer researcher. I’m not sure how they will work but I’ll let everyone know once I have some data. Being stage 4 with Bo we Mets everywhere and getting weekly blood transfusions I’m ready to try anything.

All the best as we continue the fight.

60 mg melatonin is a huge dose- probably getting a good night's sleep does just as much.

Curcumin will probably interfere with your PSA tests:

TA thanks for your response I always value your opinion. What would you recommend I do? I asked a question a few weeks ago and got no responses. My bone marrow is suppressed. My HGB and platelets remain low. I’m basically getting transfusions weekly. I have no energy and am grasping at straws. We paused my 3rd dose of docataxel because of my blood levels.

I’m open to anything to hopefully stop this beast. At 53 I’m not really ready to leave my family and not see any grandchildren.

I doubt that there are any foods or supplements that you can take that would make a difference. The problem is bone marrow depletion, not nutrition.

TA, I agree but will try anything along with SOC to kickstart my system.

The only thing I found that helped me with RBCs was testosterone. But if you have any mets I wouldn't recommend it outside of close supervision by a knowledgeable doctor.

Iron (ferrous bisglycinate), b-12 (methylcobalamin ), and folate (methyl folate) possibly help if you are deficient.

If I were in your position I would get a full battery of blood tests. They might help spot things that keep you from leaving too early. Iron, ferritin, transferrin, TIBC, B-12, folate. I'd throw in CMP while you're at it and CBC (sounds like you are on top of that because you know your RBC numbers) and also testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, vitamin D, TSH, T4, T3, hba1c%, prolactin, and lipids.

Unfortunately, anemia, low RBC, and fatigue are probably related to cancer and therapies.

Dear BigTex, being afraid and freezing with anxiety does not help us. Remember the serenity prayer..."God give me the ability to change what I can change.. And to accept things which I can not change...And Give me wisdom to know the difference." Do whatever you can do to deal with it.. and leave rest to almighty divine God." Best wishes.

LearnAll I’m out afraid of dying or freezing with anxiety. I had my name written in the book of life a long time ago. I know what my future home is in heaven. However I would love to see grandchildren and have that opportunity. If God doesn’t have that plan for me then that’s ok. As a retired Soldier I was trained to stay in the fight as long as possible and utilize all possible resources. That’s what I’m going to do until the day I die.

Thanks

Curcumin rocks! I’ve taken Meriva containing this for over 7 yrs . I’m on a boat load of other nutrients also . To the tune of $800 per month . Ouch! Too many to mention . This is primarily a SOC cite . There is not a lot of interest in nutrition or diet by many here . But There are a few of us . I say don’t delay in treatment but also treat yourself well with food and nutrition . You do you ! Good luck Tex! 😎🏜

I think people are interested everywhere the data is just really sketchy in both efficacy and side effects.

Its ok.What ever happened with your bone marrow biopsies?

Did it turn out that there was nothing noted in them that indicated a certain treatment?

Were you doing dox or taxotere chemo ?

Has your Dr. mentioned Jevtana and Cabazitaxel chemo at low dose for now ?

Has your Dr. mentioned Provenge?

How do you feel about your Dr.? Is he or she giving you options and information?

Are you in Chicago area?

Are you exhausted and if you are do you have family or someone who can investigate another Dr.

In my humble opinion I would not choose the center in Skokie you mentioned in a older post.

If you are in Chicago then Northwestern Hospital Dr. Maha Hussain comes highly recommended.

I’m in the Dallas, TX area. I actually did change Drs a few months ago. We were supposed to start a trial that I couldn’t due to my HGB levels. I’m doing docataxel and we were going to add carboplatinum but my levels aren’t supporting doing both.

CAMPSOUPS profile image
CAMPSOUPS in reply to BigTex3

Oh. I have a little more faith knowing your Dr. keeps on top of trials.I think I read that you were doing a lower dose of Docetaxel so not an option?

Jevtana and Provenge any discussion from your Dr. ?

Still wonder what happened with your marrow biopsies. ?

CAMPSOUPS profile image
CAMPSOUPS in reply to BigTex3

Hello Bigtex.Maybe I misunderstood. I thought your PC was rapidly progressing and you were running out of options fast.

The foods/naturopathic approach may be fine if you are in a state of no cancer progression and trying to continue remission but again I thought you needed to get things under control quickly.

Some of what I mentioned in my replies were things that could possibly be done even with your poor blood markers.

You never answer the question about your marrow biopsy results so I have to assume nothing good came of that.

Provenge.

Reduced dose of Jevtana.

Are options to bring up with your Dr.

I also don't know if your Dr. has any plans. Seems like you are just out in the air in limbo. Tell him or her you would like to know what your options are. That you would like to improve your blood numbers and would a pharmaceutical injection be valid to improve them so that you can get back on a treatment path. Although I understand from your writing that you continue to get transfusions. I hope your Dr. will outline in a better way what the plan is.

Dr. Maha Hussain's name has come up on numerous occasions as one of the best in Chicagoland. However no personal experience with her. If I progress to CRPR I will definitely seek out her counsel.

Sorry you didn't get responses to your last post. Unfortunately none of us knows how to cure this., so at some point we run out of advice. I understand your wanting to try anything if SOC isn't working.

Have you looked into immunotherapy trials. I've run out of SOC options and am starting a CAR-T trial. Still planning to go down swinging, if that doesn't work.

BigTex3 profile image
BigTex3 in reply to Javelin18

Thanks Javelin! I was supposed to start a trial at MD Anderson but my HGB levels were too low. I’m with you. Fight until the last breath. I’m going to try anything in addition to SOC. I know those change all the time based on new findings.

I take 20mg melatonin at night with a4.5 naltrexone per my Nat doc . 💪

Hi LuLu4.5 naltrexone

I have seen this mentioned several time on this site. I think of it as being used in alcohol and drug rehab. What is it's use in PCa?

TIA

in reply to Scout4answers

In high dose it’s used to get folks off of heroin . In low dose for c, per my Nat dr.

Al thank you so much for your response. I’m on day 3 of the papaya. The list of supplements were recommended by a cancer researcher. I would love for you to send me a message with your recommendations. I’m just trying everything to stay in the fight.

Hi BigTex3,

With Curcumin, I would consider taking it with piperine. Curcumin is poorly absorbed and if your supplement doesn’t include it, I would add it personally. When you get your psa test, you should maybe consider not taking Curcumin a couple of days beforehand, since as stated by others it may interfere with the psa test. Don’t rely on a single psa test. Do multiple psa tests and look at the trend.

Hope that’s helps.

Hi BigTexHave you looked at lowcarbdownunder web site on the Keto diet and on the effects of sugar and high carbs on cancer growth.

It’s not a cure but following intermittent fasting and a keto diet can definitely slow things down. I’ll look up the doc who has done a lot of research on this and send it to you on this site.

Suggest you watch a few of the u-tubes

Curcumin has greater solubility in oil than water, (it's nearly insoluble in water) so some take it with oil or open the capsule and mix the powder with oil.

Lycopenes seem to work for me. I drink 1/4 cup of V8 juice a day and take a 20mg supplement pill in my cooking daily. I try to keep my blood lycopene content up. However, I realize that there are many types of PC and I am also taking Lupron injections which keep my PSA down to negligible.. I also eat black pepper and curry powder and garlic and paprika daily. sciencedirect.com/science/a...

Be careful. As bad as you feel now, you can still feel worse. These compounds can have side effects especially tumeric. At that dose it can cause abdominal pain in a good percentage of people. You are taking 60 times the normal dose of Melatonin. If you start all of them at once how are you going to know which one is causing a side effect.

MrG68 profile image
MrG68 in reply to Grandpa4

I wouldn’t take tumeric. I’d take Curcumin. There’s only a small amount of Curcumin in tumeric.I take a LOT of Curcumin - much more than BigTex3 and have never experienced any side effects. But everyone’s different.
