Getting a parlify CT pet scsn and wondering if there are any side eddects and is this scan better than any others ? Also in thr last CT scan a phrase that is questionable as to what it means "there are multiple punctuate bilateral para-aortic lymph nodes" . The oncologist is not sure what thapey are good or bad.

The PYLARIFY scan actually identifies cancer tumors which express PSMA, prostate specific membrane antigens by attaching a radioactive ligand to them. A CT scan doesn’t identify cancer per se but finds anomalies in tissue density that could be cancer.

PYLARIFY is the most sensitive FDA approved scan to date

for finding cancer tumors.

How does it compare to Axumin?

It’s the most sensitive test available today and no, there are no side effects. I‘ve had already three PSMA PET scans and never had any problems.

If you are not taking any anti-hormonal medication, take for a few days, until the scanning day, Enzalutamide that increases the PSMA expression. If not available, Bicalutamide can be a substitute.

The only thing I am getting before the scan is eligard shot, thr abritone will run out in 5 days and will not be refilled, I had the eligard and the 3 month xgeva on Tuesday. I am scheduled for the xtandi to start 7 days after the PET/CT scan. He wants to clear out the arbitrone from my system and the study requires it. Will continue thr eligard and the xgeva throughout the study as they are covered by the insurance, all the drugs and scans are covered by the study.

No side effects. Best scan for PSA above 0.5.

What is the best scan for values below 0.5? My dad will finish his chemo in June and PSA is undetectable. I am looking for the best scanning method for him.

I don’t see the need for a scan at that psa level unless it was a sudden jump in a short period

I have had a pylarify scan and no untoward effects. Identified lesions not shown by Axumin in my case. PSMA positive lymphnode disease appears to be the most responsive to radioligand (Lu 177 and its "cousins"). Would refer you to this video if you are thinking about Lu 177. youtube.com/watch?v=FSx6POh...
