Duke "CHAMP" trial update

Cousins,

We found my limits to the immunotherapies added to my chemotherapies in this trial. Infusion 6 and 7 seemed to take my body down to where it was time to stop the immunotherapies and just do chemo. Thank goodness! Chemo bad days are few, chemo+immuno bad days were many once they built up in my system and my body weakened.

I write a blog for my family and friends to follow whynotsmile.org/2022/01/26/... if you want to read more on the personal side on this.

As far as the big question: Does it work? carboplatin, cabazitaxel, nivolumab and ipilimumab combined to slow advanced prostate cancer?

Answer: We don't know yet. My PSA numbers have dropped significantly, but I'm very advanced so they dance around a bit. Lower overall but they jump back up at times. I have no pain or discomfort beyond the normal bladder incontinence kinda dribble from all the scopes up my hoohoo to check in on my bladder and kidneys.

whynotsmile.org/2022/01/10/... is more of an explanation of the low point where my body was done. Luckily, I've recovered mostly already.

I'm one that accepts SOC and I'm also doing additional things I've learned from this crew and others. Keep smiling my friends, life is good!

Let your MO know what "additional things" you are doing, as some may interfere with your therapy.

Gotcha, the clinical trial crew knows all and approved. MO knows some, the PA knows all and keeps me in check.

Getting through this has been amazing and getting through it with such good humour even more so. I wish you the very best of luck with the follow up and thank you for keeping us in the loop.

I just want to simply say thank you for doing the trial.

Herbie, thanks for sharing your journey with us!Man…..this Champ Trial really throws everything at it.

Carbo & Caba + 2 of the “Mab” immuno drugs. If they bring you close to tapping out, hopefully the PCa cells tap first.

Best of luck for you and your lovely family,

you have many reasons to try whatever it takes. This is the first I have seen of this quadruple approach.

Question: do they keep you on the triple ADT regimen simultaneously? I had read a study here on HU, that despite Castration Resistance, to stay on triple ADT while on Chemo as there was clear synergy with the approach hitting PCa from multiple angles.
