Metastatic Cancer Project

When consulting with Dr Dorff soon after my diagnosis, I asked about comparing my germline genome to my 4 brothers that don’t have PCa. This eventually led to a conversation with the doctor running the Metastatic Prostate Cancer project.

The project gathers genetic and clinical data from patients with metastatic prostate cancer and makes it available to researchers.

I like the broad sweep of looking for patterns in all available data, so I had my biopsy sample sent in, and sent a saliva sample and history survey.

You can get more information on the project here, mpcproject.org/

Yep. I’ve tried to live a healthy lifestyle and was being monitored for PSA for years, only to end up with aggressive de novo mCRPC.

They gather info to eventually share with the medical community but since Covid they seem to have gone quiet.

My experience with them is recent, since my diagnosis is too. I found them by a circuitous path, so maybe they’re not very active in promoting the project.

To the Jerk,Oops I meant James...... Listen all of us and especially me are jerks from time to time. Actually my wife tells me that every time I beat her.... only thing is she's getting to like the beatings. Thank you for detailing your trials and tribulations in hospice, since we shall be in that position soon. What do I say to someone who is going through what you're going through. I wish I could lift your spirits and have you drink a bottle or two. Humor is my way of beating this monster who decided to take over my body. So when it's my turn to reach room temperature I will be cremated so that that bastard of a monster will also turn to ashes. I would like to recommend an old Stanley Kubrick movie "Paths of glory" which you might find very interesting and entertaining while you're bored lying in bed. As you struggle with some of you bodily functions why not add Prunes to you diet. Get some pitted ones and boil them with a slice of lemon and enjoy them (drink the juice). So James eh I mean Jerk please try to laugh and remember it's fun to laugh..... You may not believe this but everything we do is funny.....

p.s I have a tendency to ramble on....

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

What sort of data do they provide to you?

There’s no direct feedback to the patient, as I understand it. It is meant more to identify markers or patterns in the data. The website has a link to. data drop with a collection of data.

I like the project because it fits with my view that it’s better to broaden the search, when narrow hypotheses haven’t yielded a cure.
