Cannabis has been discussed. Some members do use it for pain. I don't know what state you are in but there is a difference between CBD oil and cannabis.

Il legal state, wondering about if it helps.

It depends on the type of pain you are experiencing as to what you might use. I am a great believer in Cannabis and THC products. I use smoking and edibles to sleep while my wife uses a topical product for occasional pain. While it isn't a miracle drug it has its purpose

Everyone responds differently but it's worth a try.

I reside in a state where recreational marijuana is legal. I use cannabis for pain and anxiety relieve, for appetite simulation, and as a sleep aid.

I have tried everything for sleep and initially I think that CBD did work (real CBD from cannabis that was tested for CBD and THC levels) I am now weaning off Lexipro because it seems to be what is giving me horrible nightmares. I wake up about 20 times a night with hot flashes horrible dreams and sometimes pain but that is OK for now. CBD no longer helps at al land I am afraid to try THC because in the past it kept me awake, it did not help me to sleep. What specifically are you using for sleep? The CBD I tried was tested as 20 to 1 CBD/THC.

in reply to spencoid2

There are indica or indica leaning hybrid strains that should be good for insomnia. Stay away from sativa strains.

I have quit Lexipro since it was giving me horrible nightmares. However it seems that an Indica prominent cannabis might be what i need for sleep. Asked my crazy neighbor if any of her 7000 plants might be Indica dominant.

I used cannabis early on for pain management, and my wife uses it now for serious osteoporosis back pain and swears by it. Nowadays I’m prohibited by Kaiser from using cannabis …even tho it’s off the shelf in corner convenience stores here.

You might consider a VR headset for pain management as well. My wife worked at UCSF , S.F before she retired …UCSF pioneered many studies for VR pain management for pediatrics and adults. It works great for me while I have the headset on. I can recommend it from , near daily, direct personal experience.

Google: VR headset for cancer pain relief ….. for a large number of references. UCSF trials found that VR worked equally well for pain and anxiety during outpatient procedures.

If you are looking for alternative pain managements like cannabis, you might try VR since it’s legal everywhere.

Plus VR “ and “ cannabis are especially excellent. Yayahahahaya

This is awesome. My work gave me an oculus for Christmas. Ill see if i can find some use for it for my dad who is getting radiation soon

Kaliber in reply to meowlicious99

Yea …who wudda thunk …huh. My wife used to take the UCSF VR pediatric oculus goggles to medical conventions. There would be huge lines of doctors to try them out. Of course it resonated with nerdy me and I tried them and they are so immersive that you temporarily forget about much of the pain and simultaneously provide you with some incredible entertainment. It’s a win-win situation. One of the newest applications is letting cancer patients use them in the infusion clinics. They dramatically improve the uncomfortable chemo infusion experience and make those hours pass fast. I like VR a lot. I use the standalone , untethered , oculus quest and the newer oculus quest two is much more affordable . They work for mental depression as well, IMHO.

Kaiser's strange fear of cannabis is absurd. A friend was denied a heart transplant until she showed no trace of cannabis in testing.

Kaliber in reply to spencoid2

When cannabis is legal locally , like where I live ….. it’s easy to forget that cannabis is still a Schedule 1 illegal drug on the Federal level. many top tier medical providers …. Like UCSF S.F. and Mayo have cannabis clinics . Not Kaiser yet. Well … maybe someday , who knows.

in reply to spencoid2

THats just wrong!

in reply to Kaliber

I've heard you mention that before and they even test you for it too?

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply to

Yea … Kaiser has a “ pain management contract “ they require you to sign in order to receive your opioid pain meds. It’s two pages of prohibited substances, marijuana first on the list. They confirm compliance with blood and urine testing and random urine testing. Couple months ago , I got my monthly eom blood dap test and 3 different surprise urine tests. Two weeks ago I had another urine test, it was the basic regular dap “ dip the sticks “ test and two deep dive “ abuse confirmation “ tests…. One for a long list of opiates and one for a hefty list of benzos.

The want to know “ what “ and “ how much “ …in case you are taking extra meds or not taking them as prescribed daily. You might be selling some or not taking them because you don’t really need them…. Or doubling up on them or getting more from someplace else.

Be to be fair … I think all this recent testing and confirmation was leading up to a video visit with my GP for my palliative pain management. She realizes that I’m in very “ uncomfortable “ ( pain ) circumstances and it’s never going away or get better. She told me to adjust my opiates intake , whatever it takes ,to make myself comfortable …. and she would adjust my prescriptions on her end to reflect my needs. To me it was a “ strong “ late palliative care move , especially coming from a VERY conservative Indian doctor at Kaiser. Kaiser has it pluses and minuses yayahahahaya

I live in a legal pot state. High THC smokable (vapable) allows me to sleep very well. Up maybe once a night instead of 4 to 5 times.

Those green chocolate chip cookies really helped with pain from my broken back...

Go for it! If you can grow those grapes you can grow your own ! I’ve used the high Thc oil and I’ve also smoked since dx six years ago .. some don’t like the high . I do . Many a man here are on pain and or mood pills or sleeping aids or all three . or taking nausea meds .Thankfully , I take none . Smoking helps my nausea appetite and moods . I did the high Thc RSO 60 grams in 90 days during imrt . Now I do a small dose twice daily . I Also take 20 mgs melatonin and 4.5 naltrexone at night per my nat dr.

Hey buddy, thanks for asking. I guess things have taken a bit of a downturn, but you know me … I’m just fighting off the downside mental parts and trying to put my famous “ workarounds “ to work . Lemons out of lemonade. I lost use of my left leg , I have a great deal of met deformation and damage in my left knee ( 3X the size of my right knee ) and …. low T muscle wasting + bone mets have taken out my left calf and lower tendons ligaments etc. . I already couldn’t walk much using the etrike and wheeled chairs in the house, but now I can’t walk at all. The pain in that leg extremely excruciating when I try to use it.

No biggie buddy, I’ve already bought some crutches and learning how to use those … it’s trickier than it looks yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. I’m out today learning how to get out into the garage again, and I’ll be trying to learn to get into my truck with a wheeled chair , step stool and crutches this afternoon or tomorrow sometime. It’ll take some learning curve but I’m no where near down and out yet … Ive already learned how to get out back to the jacuzzi … in a while I’ll be able to recalibrate my life to workaround this new mess too. It’s all part of the rich texture of life.

I spent 10 years of my life helping wounded active duty soldiers, many with their leg / s blown or shot off … and another 22 years in a V. A. medical center with patient amputees and with lower paralysis …. Ive seen them learn to normalize , I have all that experience to draw upon to normalize my own life as well. I know the tools and the drill … I got this 😁.

Other than that, and a few new near emergency room events in the last couple weeks … not much else going on … on this end big guy. Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya.

Truthfully, when I hear what some guys are going thru on the group, my pitiful problems seem like almost nothing.

Hope things are going well on your end , hope LuLu and wifey are happy and well too. Its people just like you … with all the tubes you had sticking out of you and everything else that went wrong … that inspire all the rest of us to presser vere. That had to be 10X worse than this …. Love ya buddy.

❤️❤️❤️

Glad to see you back too.But damn man I thought well Kaliber is going thru his 7 to 10 day extreme Zometa reaction as usual and will be back when it subsides.

This is different.

I'm doing pretty damn good. You give me pause to wonder if one or some of my many bone metastasis will give me trouble down the road. Thanks for the heads up ha.

You do inspire. I guess we do all adjust...or in some cases not I guess.

I have it made. I tell people I'm fine. Then sometimes I say to myself wait a minute. I'm forgetting that I have given up on my right arm for most things requiring its use. Oh and what about the mild pain in my femurs that reminds me I'm far from cured but that will give me a heads up before any PSA test that I am progressing as my femurs did about 6 months ago when the pain magnified and range of motion diminished.

Then all the adt effects which are nothing unless one stops a minute and thinks about them. The loss of strength and stamina asking wife to please take the cap off the water jug so I don't have to go get my pliers (which work by the way). I forget a lot. It's kind of a survival mentality I guess.

Years ago when my personal life wasn't going well someone said my problem was that I was able to compartmentalize things and not deal with them. It was a negative. Now days I think it is a positive lol.

Time like this I'm going on about myself when really want to offer words of support to you. But maybe it all relates.

Hey though its cliché but hang in there brother Kal. Way to go as usual finding a ways thru the crap you've been delt.

Yea buddy, thanks. I think this event I’m having is , like you say, interesting for the group because you always see men that have run out of treatments or the mets get to their organs or brain ….. but I never thought about being whacked from a totally different angle. Never thought about what it might be like ending up suddenly bedridden, not even able to get up to eat or do personal hygiene without others caring for you. Losing your balance and fall and can’t even crawl away for help. The possibility of suddenly needing to be thrust into a nursing facility waiting for the cancer to finish you off. That’s grim stuff. Hopefully the hammer can take care of me at home until I pass … making it harder and harder on her really sucks tho. Speaking of Zometa …. On top of all this, next week ….I have blood panels, two days later a Lupron depot and the next day, thanksgiving eve, my Zometa infusion . Yeeehawww bring it on … yayahahahaya yayahahahaya All part of the rich texture of life …

❤️❤️❤️

CAMPSOUPS profile image
CAMPSOUPS in reply to Kaliber

Well crapola. Here I thought you just finished your Zometa.

Its a balancing act for the mental health knowing the possibilities. Well ok, the probabilities.

Need some "pragmatism" but also need to forget and just enjoy the moment. Ain't easy sometimes.

I think for me its easier to deal with the treatment effects, effects of the cancer before it was diagnosed than with any sign of progression.

In other words if I get bone breakage because of past met damage that's not so scary. But anything to do with progression of my disease still scares the crap out of me.

I rode the no progression groove like I didn't have cancer after chemo until PSA and met pain showed their head. Life was good. I lived like I would just slide into Zytiga when it was time but when my PSA rose from 8-9 to 40 and I realized it wasn't adt causing my femur and hip pain it practically brought me back to the panic I had when I was first diagnosed.

And yep. I'm ok. Its what it will do to my wife and son, siblings that bothers me.

Anyway you aren't going to a nursing home any time soon. I can see someone saying hey dude you have no use of your legs time to go. And you saying no man I made this around the house mobility thing out of an electric skate board I'm fine.

Do you think the RSO worked. I am considering it. I now have all the work I need to do for Xmas sales done (I manufacture the stuff, not sell it) so it would be a pretty good time to be stoned all the time. I have very high THC resin that I made years ago and was planning on using that. I would have to thin it down since it is too sticky to eat as it is. It was tested at something like 68% THC and 80 plus total canabinoids as was fully decarboxylated ao it is THC not THC A ,just a trace of THC A. Did you follow the basic instructions on the ??? Tears site?

in reply to spencoid2

I do think it worked. I’m still on it !

spencoid2 profile image
spencoid2 in reply to

does the stoned effect go away in a while? i like very occasional pot use but not regular use. what i have is very strong resin from sour diesel fully decarbolylated probably a little under 70% THC very little THC A and not much CBD Do you think this is suitable? I made it years ago when I was given a large quantity of SD crumble that had no market. I figured i might as well extract it so it would keep in case anyone needed it a cancer cure :) good planning ?

in reply to spencoid2

I Was not a regular user either . I had a low tolerance to the high Thc initially . Now after six years on it I m saturated and I could smoke with the Rastamen of the blue mountains of Jamaica . I think it’s all good . If for nothing else , canabis has been used since the first man walked the earth , for its calming effects . SD crumble sounds good .

in reply to spencoid2

Yes I followed the Rso plan . Starting with a half a grain of rice. You must build up a little tolerance if it’s super high thc . Then progress up to a gram a day near the end. 60 grams in 90 days. I did that twice. You have knowledge and if you like the high I believe it has anti cancer properties . Especially at the high dose. Smoking for me is purely pleasure. I don’t really drink anymore. Cutting processed foods and sugars out is also good . Enjoy life as much as we can. I have an iPhone and a portable Bose speaker I smoke and listen to all of the music I love . If I wasn’t on canAby I’d probably go nuts with anxiety’s related to this vicious man eating disease. I’d prefer to keep my head in a cloud of uplifting smoke and be happy don’t worry . Good day sir! Peace to you! Scott ✌️🍀

I have a nine foot grand piano that plays itself. i could listen for hours, just wish I had more very high quality music for it. just tuned it (touch up only but it is good enough) i might get wrecked tonight (over the holiday manufacturing rush so have some time to play) and enjoy the music. will try to convince husband to join which should not be too difficult. also working on getting control over our 833.1 gigs of flak tracks to play on our quite good sound system. something like 50000 or more tracks from jazz to classical to pop to rock, no rap unless someone tells me about the good stuff i occasionally hear. what do you listen to?

in reply to spencoid2

You’re my hero . I’d love to experience that sound system quality . Born in 61 , I like 60’s , 70’s 80’ , 90’s blues rock even some blue grass and a lot of old classic Americana like hank sr . Louis prima , Ernie Ford ten tones ,plus ZZ Top all the classic rock .. Or Mose Allison , satchmo,All Nola music . Boom ,boom ,boom , John Lee hooker . Last great American whale . In 1990 I had a high end bang and Olson sound system at home . Somehow an ex made off with that and more . Now I look at B & O ,mama Mia! They have $100,000 speaker sets . I d love to hear that quality ? Here is my favorite rap song now from young dude rapper from Compton . Roddy Ricch “ down below” .. banjo odyssey from the dead south ,humble pie “ I don’t need no doctor”! Blackberry smoke “ ain’t much of me left” and “ one horse town” with 50,000 tracks you need never listen to the same tunes .

in reply to spencoid2

We put it into gel caps

spencoid2 profile image
spencoid2 in reply to

that would be a way to deal with the gloppyness. will it absorb even if a stiff resin if i put in caps? good chance to use some not much used stuff like my 1000 gel caps and my semi micro analytical balance. i could spend a few hours making a progression of stronger and stronger caps and figure out how to sort them or who knows what. i have a CNC router that i could turn into a micropipetter machine, would only take me a week or so writing the code :)

I use both whole plant cannabis and cannabis oil to treat pain, side effects and other symptoms. I vaporize flower daily. I also use legal hemp-derived cannabinoids including Cannabidiol (CBD) and Cannabigerol (CBG). CBG has been found to a potent reliever by many according to this recent survey of patients: ilesol.com/first-of-its-kin...

As one who stumbled upon cannabis as a treatment for congenital glaucoma over 50 years ago, I have a lifetime of experience using cannabis and have found it very helpful for PC. As a side note, I have probably had PC for over a decade, and it seems to have really slowed down the progression over this time. I did not begin active conventional treatments until a year ago. Another beneficial side effect is that for many it eases the emotional effects of dealing with serious illness. To each their own, but for me it has been a godsend for multiple medical conditions.

I make my own cannabis oil from relatively low quality plant material. It is purported to have many direct benefits (eg. Anti angiogenesis, pro aptosis). I feel that the relaxation and sleep promoting actions are as important as any physiological benefit.

Dr. Myers clinical observations from his thousands of prostate cancer patients was, that those who most bragged about treating their cancer with cannabis had noticeably more aggressive cancer than his other patients.

Prostate cancer cells have more cannabinoid receptors on them than do non-cancerous prostate cellers.

His conjecture was the cannabis promotes the health of prostate cancer cells.

There is no way currently to do a real clinical trial on this issue.

But I would be wary of cannabis if you have prostate cancer cells in your body.

Once you are in hospice, it becomes another issue if you are talking about pain relief.

We have a medical card so I feel totally comfortable telling you that it has really helped my husband. Particularly a strain called Rick Simpson. I’m almost certain that it was the first cannabis protocol approved for cancer treatment-at least in US. It comes in oil form in a syringe and we just put a rice sized squirt on a gingerbread cookie. He’s been able to cut his pain meds way down. It also helps him relax, relieves nausea and improves his appetite. Win-win for sure.
