Zometa pain flare advice

Hi everyone, I'm posting on behalf of my Father (61 fit & healthy very active never ever sick, dx last Aug 2020, stage 4 multiple widespread bone mets & few lymph nodes, psa 84) immediately started decapeptyl injection every 3 months & zometa infusion.

9 rounds of chemo (taxotere) brought psa to 9.8, it began creeping up & in april this year psa 38, consultant suggested Peace 111 trial (xtandi & radium 223) changed zometa to monthly infusions. He has been on Xtandi for almost 4 weeks now, starts radium 223 in a couple of weeks.

My question is relation to the pain flare from zometa, its pretty intense. He is on oxycodone 15mg morning & night plus 5mg oxynorm for Break through pain up to 3 times daily. This has had to be increased to 10mg for the week after his Zometa as the pain in his hip & leg is so severe. This month his shoulder is also bad. We mapped out his bone scan results with where he has the most pain and they are exactly matching. Is the pain the cancer cells 'dying' as I have read on various posts? Has anyone any advice how to minimise zometa side effects of will they decrease as the treatments work? It got so bad this week he said he doesn't want the infusions anymore as he really felt so good the previous 3 weeks since starting xdanti. But ofcourse he needs the zometa for the radium 223. He hates taking so many pain meds but it's absolutely necessary. I have ordered him cbd gummies. He also take stilnoct at night 10mg but has broken sleep badly in the flare days because of the pain.

Many thanks in advance for your help & advice. ❤️

Try steroids for the inflammation. Also Celebrex.

Yes, add Celebrex. Allen pointed out to me a few years ago a phase 3 study that showed Celebrex combined with the show made a decrease in deaths by over 20%.

I could not breathe and felt like an anvil was on my chest.Spent a day in emergency to fin d nothing wrong. After seeing the allergist who found a dust allergy I was placed on Reactin . Fine ever since! Of course the mCRPC is still ravaging me big time!

In a phase 2 trial of CFI-400945 now. Been through the mill (chemo, immunotherapy And of course ADT).

Commenting because it’s the first post about antihistamines that I see. They help me sleep without that weight on my chest any more.

Electronic air cleaners in the house cured most of my dust allergy. It is bad when the furnace kicks on in the fall. The humidity is high and dust mites love that. When the humidity gets below 50% my dust allergy seems to go away. I suffered for many years till an allergist ran test that showed a severe allergy to dust mites. Even those portable electronic air cleaners (got 2 off of Amazon) really help especially when I sleep. Next step is a whole house electronic air cleaner. Using our wood stove in the winter really helps too. No furnace fan.
