He’s gone

WVtwinsmama profile image

After what seemed like rapidly declining medical status in the last month, I lost my beautiful husband this morning. We’d made the decision to move to inpatient hospice yesterday as he continued to decline. At last count his PSA was 2800 and Alk Phos was 916 both numbers up considerably from just a month ago. Other labs too low to make him a candidate for continued treatment. We were in hospice a little over 12 hours. There’s a sense of peace that comes from the end knowing we did everything possible to prolong it. He was a doctor, so he knew at diagnosis he would likely not see 5 years. But he allowed me to be optimistic. He was a husband, a father to 3, a Marine, a doctor, and my best friend, we just celebrated our 28th anniversary on Saturday. He was 53.

Thank you for this site, and all of you who share your stories, your questions and responses. It’s been a tremendous help to me over these last several years. Best of luck to all of you still fighting.

I'm crying reading this.

So very sorry for your loss he was so young too leave 🙏💔❤

My sincere condolences to your 3 children and yourself. You are in my prayers and thoughts. He was so lucky to have had you by his side. Please take care of your family. Love Graham

You must be so ragged right now. Thank you for letting us know. Thinking of you and your family and holding you all tightly in my prayers. This chat room has been a savior for me too.

Thanks for the update. Sorry for your loss. Reread all your posts. It's been a hard row to hoe. We all dread the day of our passing more for our wives than for ourselves, but as hard as we try to hold it together, we will all be there way too soon. Love you and all wives who stand by us on this horrible trip we are on.

I am way over my head in sadness. Pca is suppose to be an old man's disease---yet we find and have members as young as 43 with this disease.

In times as this--I turn to Psalm 23:[Modified by Me]

The Lord is my shepherd, you shall lack nothing

He makes me lie down in green pastures

He leads me beside quiet waters

He restores my soul

He guides me in paths of righteousness

Even though I walkthrough the valley of the shadow of death

You will fear no evil, you will find to find Peace

For the Lord will comfort you, in times of distress.

Let there be a great peace[Shalom Ha Gadol]

I’m so sorry for your loss my condolences prayers

Oh my Lord in Heaven. Another young Family. It is lovely you find Peace in this time of sorrow for that is what this has become. No more pain and suffering and filling our bodies with pharmaceuticals. You must know your husbands spirit will be with you and your children now, and will remind you often with little signs. A feather, a butterfly, a shiny coin in front of you, one of the children using one of his common expressions. Peace be with you and yours,

Mike & Barbara

St Pete, FL

Words cannot express the sorrow we feel for you.

May the good Lord grant you and your children peace.

May your husband rest in peace.

I salute the brave warrior

I am so sorry. He served his country, his patients, his family, and now the angels are serving him.

May he RIP and be remembered with love and honor. A great man. Thank you for your posts-- it helps us understand what to expect in late-stage IV. Best regards- Tim

My deepest condolences to you and the family on his passing at such a young age :-(Thank you Sir for your service to our Country

Rest in Peace and Suffer no more

Hugs from CA

It seems you have your comfort in knowing you both did all you could do. May your memories bring the peace you need to ease the pain.

Another brave warrior that left too soon. My heart breaks for you and your children and all of his loved ones. I don't know you but yet I do. We all do here. I'm so sorry for your loss and pray for strength and comfort for you. Thank you for taking the time to let us all know. Please take care of yourself.

A wonderful man has lost a battle, but not the war. May your pain ease, and your heart be filled with good memories. God bless and keep you and your family.

Prostate cancer is usually considered an "old man disease". Its easy to forget it takes those of us only in our 40s and 50s as well. So sorry for your loss

Words are not enough to speak of your devastating loss. My heart truly breaks for you and your family. Taken far too young. All I can say is how deeply sorry I am for your loss. God Bless

I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope your husband’s transition may being some peace for you and your family. At 51, I too understand the difficulty of dealing with this when so relatively young and for you, your husband and your family. My heart breaks for you. Stay strong!!!

So sorry for your loss. It always amazes me that loved ones such as yourself are kind enough to let us know that the one they love his passed. Even in their deep sorrow people like you are trying to help others by letting us know. Thank you. You are in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss and for your children's loss of a young father. Thank you for sharing his story with us. I hope you find the strength to carry you through this difficult period.

Condolences. May he rest in peace.

I'm so sorry, WVtwinsmama, that you've lost your husband so soon after his diagnosis. I see that you both had two years of hell as you tried to vanquish a shockingly fast form of prostate cancer. You must feel numbed by the speed and pain of your husband's decline. I wish you peace in the sad days ahead. You did so much for him.

A true soldier who served so many others, and the same in life as a doctor! It is a sad passing and I wish to offer my condolences and heartfelt remorse for your loss.

I'm left with an image in my mind...

One of which how all of us PCa patients are standing in line, shoulder to shoulder, like the soldiers and warriors, ready to change, to fight, not even just for ourselves but for those to the left, and to the right, but especially for those behind us.

And as I'm standing there, I see and can feel the loss and emptiness as warriors fall around me. It's hard to explain, hard to put a finger on it, but the pain is real, knowing we are fighting an unimaginable for, one who we don't understand the depth of its resources, or when the fight may end. Only that it fights us as we stand together, and continue to fight, through the darkness as we hope for victory! It fights incessantly, taking everything we throw at it, every charge we make to breech it's defenses. And still we fall... But we fight, we fight to live another day and stand together, side by side, until there is fight no more!

Best Regards and again, condolences to you and all his loved one's.

So sorry for your loss. 😓

My condolences to you and your family. He was way too young. Please take care of yourself and know we are still here for you.

So very sorry for the loss of your beloved husband. He(and I’m sure you as well) , had a servants heart for which an eternal reward awaits him. Praying for your peace and comfort and thanking him for a life well lived

It is so sad to hear of the loss of one of our warriors, a person who served our country and also serve many of a patient to better health. Lord I pray that you be with his young family and help them to look back on the good memories of our lost warrior.
