Beginning Orgovyx this week. Co pay $50/mo. Will see how it goes. Just finished focal proton radiation to a spot on a rib and 1 node with Dr Rossi at California Proton. No side effects. Medicare paid 100%.

Have been on Firmagon 3 months to radiosensitize the cancer we planned to radiate prior to treatment.

Plans are to do ADT for a period of time, perhaps a year. I know there are folks out there wondering about Orgovyx. Lupron caused me issues with cardiac arrythmias, Firmagon no issues other than injection site reaction, will be well worth $50/month to avoid those shots/site reaction.

Hi Scott,

Good to hear that your PBT went well with Dr. Rossi, and it'll be interesting to hear how you do with the ADT drug.

Take care,

Jeff

Is it $50 per month because that is what Medicare approves/pays? Or does the manufacturer offer some program?

wilcoxsaw profile image
wilcoxsaw in reply to GoBucks

Blue Cross my secondary ins ( Medicare is primary) lists Orgovyx as tier 3, so per my plan my cost is $50. First 2 months are free through Orgovyx.

I’d better check call my insurance provider too. Humana Choice PPO did not even have Orgovyx listed on approved T3 or anywhere as of Jan 01. Better ck again today. $50/month is great.Hope you do super wilcoxsaw.

I’m on Medicare with Humana secondary....

Check again. Drug became available Jan 4th. Also ask them if relugolix is listed, it's the same thing.

depotdoug in reply to wilcoxsaw

Will do now. Going to my Humana Drug pharmacy site for info. My next Lupron/No Eligard injection would be March 12th. We shall see.

Your Ind Med MA PD Local PPO does not cover Orgovyx. $2428.65 full price. This was from my pharmacy search online. I did call them yet. Pharmacy does not even mention or show Regulix..

wilcoxsaw in reply to depotdoug

Drag. Perhaps relugolix.

depotdoug profile image
depotdoug in reply to wilcoxsaw

Tried Regugolix and Orgovyx neither come up except as specialty drug.

Phone call is next.

Suggest you do paperwork and get an actual quote. Verbally and online it was $600/month....now that Prior Authorization went through....it is $27.50/month (96% decrease)

depotdoug profile image
depotdoug in reply to JPnSD

Ok. Will do. My insurance call last evening said that their own pharmacy does not even provide that drug. Yet. So it goes to say that it Reguloix or Orgovyx has to be pre-authorized by insurance anyway.

It would not hurt to be proactive and start the process now.

Thanks.

Religolix Is just the generic name for Orgovyx.

Going into my third month on Orgovyx, 1st 2 months were free. Third month was $965. My Bc/bs Supp G has it as a tier 5, I believe and will pay a little less than half from here on.. I’ve applied for assistance thru the manufacturer but no results so far. Great drug ( better than shots in my opinion) but can be super expensive.

Thank you for this info. Please post to let us know how you fare. My husband, Steve (Stevana on this site), asked about this drug Thursday when he saw his MO and they are checking to see if he can take it since he is in a clinical trial. His doctor has no problem with it but being on a clinical trial any additional drug or deviation has to be approved. He also has Medicare and Blue Cross and had already called BC to make sure it was on their drug list. He has been on Firmagon since last April and would love to stop these monthly injections.

I've been taking Lupron for a year and no side effects at all. I do take herbal supplements that support cardiac health.

Arrhythmias are not real common but certainly possible. Glad you've been free of them. Once I stopped the Lupron they also stopped.

I have done a check with my insurance company tonight. Orgovyx and or Relugolix both meds are not covered by Humana, yet. Yet means I would pay $2468.65 per month full price. That's not going to happen with Doug. Also Insurance Pharmacy rep told me their pharmacy does not even provide this Specialty medicine tablet. All right, she said - two pharmacy companies that do are: Biologics and US Bioservices. Wonderful news, not really I found out nothing that would help me get this new FDA approved med pill.Oh well, I will stay on ELIGARD, Lupron Depot is still on the endangered species list(supply shortage issues).

Any comments?

Doug

in reply to depotdoug

What is your Eligard frequency and where is your injection site?

depotdoug profile image
depotdoug in reply to

I am on a 90 day Eligard injection in my intramusclure(sp) rear. That's not what you wanted to know, re site. My 2nd Med Oncology doctor I've had since Nov 2020,I'm seeing at The IU Health Shelly and Schwarz Cancer Center, IU North Hospital, IN.

I have had 2 90 day syringe Eligard injections so far. They, my med oncologist chemo team tells me Lupron Depot 90 day inj is not available right now, due to a shortage.

I have been on Lupron Depot 90 day inj since Nov 2019, started at IU Health Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in downtown Indianapolis. Oh plus Abiraterone acetate 250mg and Pred 5mg twice daily.

Hope this helps understand my situation. I've got a 95-120 mile drive from Ft. Wayne, IN every three months. That is not bad weather permitting and my health stays good.

Doug

in reply to depotdoug

I wonder why you get that shot in the rear and not the tricep?

My eligard is 90 day subcutaneous.

depotdoug profile image
depotdoug in reply to

They never told me i could have injection in my tricep muscule.

1st eligard 90 day last Sept they Oncolgy RN said they give eligard injection into stomach muscule. No way. I said i’ve got hernia problems there and not gonna have that pain spot while driving back home with seat belt around my abdomen. So i opted for right butt area.

in reply to depotdoug

I just learned something new.So Eligard come in Intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.

I get the subcutaneous injections in the back of my arm.

See if you can get the subcutaneous injection. You will have a much better experience.

depotdoug profile image
depotdoug in reply to

Depotdoug(me) will ask, no insist and take administering document from Eligard with me for March 12th injection. Subcutaneously. Sounds good to me. I’ve got the strongest, most muscular biceps and triceps i’ve ever had working out daily. 60# bicep curls or 85# tricep presses aught to give RN something to push into.I’ll forget about Orgovyx Relugix for now. Thxs for info.

Doug

in reply to depotdoug

The subcutaneous will go between the skin and the muscle in the back of the tricep. I switch arms each visit. It will feel like a mild bee sting for 2-5 min and then nothing.

I workout after work and my MO appts are in the morning. I haven't missed a workout yet. And I do dips each session without any issues from the injection.

I read in one of your post you workout at Planet Fitness. I'm also a PF member. Work reimburses so I have the Black Membership. If you have the Black membership also...have you used the HydroMassage bed? I love that after my workouts.

depotdoug profile image
depotdoug in reply to

Nope to Black membership. I’ve had the Classic membership since 2014. PF grandfathered me in ever since. Free membership but no Bkack card advantages. They bill my insurance at a reduced rate i think.

But i can only use my one local facility.

Can’t use others in Ft Wayne or Indianapolis IN area. Maybe ck on upgrade cost today. Right now we are recovering from a snow/icy winter mix.

Should melt by lunch time.

Thxs for idea of hydro massage.

Definitely will do tricep inj 03/12 two days after my 69tg b-day. I’m lucky to be retired and now almost a 10 yr SCA survivor. May 12,2011!

Lastly...I'm in the Philadelphia area so we hired your OF coordinator as head coach. What's the skinny on this guy? A good bloke?

Living in your area and my area beats living in NYC.

(I get these in before j-o-h-n chimes in with a joke )

😀

Don't know much or nothing about Kevin Patullo as football OF history. He was a young quarter back coach. I used to follow Colts Peyton Manning time, but not much now.Sad to see Green Bay bomb out of Super Bowl 50 this year.

Chuck Paganio, past Colts coach was a great coach, and also a Cancer Survivor like we are too hopefully.

Let us see what j-o-h-n has to say about NYC or freedom city, Philadephia.

Hello JP,I just authorization from my immunotherapy clinical trail to switch from Firmagon to Orgovyx. Was wondering who your provider is (mine is BCBS FEP) and where you are getting your prescription filled? Others on this post have said they can’t find the drug. Thanks.

JPnSD profile image

Only 2 mail order pharmacies authorized. Go to Orgovyx website...and call number. They will explain everything. I am getting mine from Biologics Rx.

Hello, Wilcoxsaw,I just got approval from my clinic trail people to switch from Firmagon monthly shot to Orgovyx daily oral pill. I too have Medicare plus Blue Cross FEP as my secondary. I know you haven’t been using Orgovyx that long but was wondering if you have experienced any differences between the two drugs. Hope you are doing well on your PC journey. Stay strong. 👍💪🌈

Forgot to ask what is the mg of the Orgovyx and is it tablet or capsule? Thanks.

wilcoxsaw profile image
wilcoxsaw

Here is my 2-week update using Orgovyx and some answers to some of the questions I've seen above. The prescription is available through 2 Specialty pharmacies that Orgovyx uses. Have your doctor contact Orgovyx at the number listed on the website to start the process. The prescription will be sent directly to you from one of those 2 Specialty pharmacies. If you are being treated by a large Comprehensive Cancer Center , such as the City of Hope which I am, the pharmacy at that Center may be able to arrange having the drug sent directly to them and then they will dispense it to you. I am receiving two months free through Orgovyx, thereafter my copay is $50 per month.

The daily dosage is one tablet, 120 mg. The first dose is three tablets on day one.

The only side effect that I've noticed different about Orgovyx is that because it is a oral pill, it seems to have initially irritated my butthole. Something in it caused it to become irritated after a couple days but keeping it real clean and applying zinc oxide seems to have taken care of that problem. I rarely get hot flashes, I'm still working out at the gym 4 days a week and I haven't noticed any change in my strength or stamina versus firmagon. I will be due for a testosterone and PSA Lab at the end of this month to see if it is as effective as firmagon.

JPnSD profile image
JPnSD

On day 3 of Orgovyx 120 mg. I am sleeping a bit better...feel clearer...still some hot flashes (seems fewer)...though too soon to tell much. Will update after a few weeks. PSA from Firmagon was undetectable for the 4 months I was on it...will retest at 4 week mark. So grateful I got to skip this month's injection. The cost issue was all over the ballpark...started with $2400 estimate...Myovant said $28/month...and then my insurance chimed in and said $850/mo....but worked with Biologics Rx and was able to find a grant program to cover most of it (in addition to 2 months free from Myovant). All the usual bumps and turns because it is new...they need to get a coordinated process in place.

wilcoxsaw profile image
wilcoxsaw

1 month on Orgovyx, psa below 0.014, T is 8. Minor hot flashes. No difference in side effects vs firmagon.

My Medicare Part D provider is CVS/Caremark. My oncologist prescribed Orgovyx with CVS/Caremark last Friday. I received a call from them on Saturday stating that I was denied due to lack of substantiating information to their satisfaction. Further, CVS/Caremark sent me two letters dated that same Saturday, one stating the Orgovyx is not in the CVS formulary and was, therefore, denied. The second letter, in a separate envelope stated I was denied due to a lack of substantiating detail from my doctor. I received both letters this Wednesday so I went from prescription to double denial in the space of four days.

It seems as though I was denied for two different and, perhaps, competing reasons. The second letter seemed to imply that if they had more information they could approve it. The first letter, however, claimed they don't even have Orgovyx in their formulary.

depotdoug profile image
depotdoug in reply to Explorer08

It seems like a no win situation Explorer08. Twice denied, wow. I got the same verbal telephone response about a month ago from my insurance Humana Choice PPO. 1st they did not even have Orgovyx in their drug approved formulary yet. And just stated the cost from Orgovyx from the pharm company.

I just gave up for now.

It will be an excellent question for my Med Onc to directly ask face to face next Friday, March 12th.

A dead end not yet.

Explorer08 profile image
Explorer08 in reply to depotdoug

Yes, they are making it VERY tough to get into Orgovyx. My next Med Onc meeting is on March 10th so perhaps we can share our experiences from those meetings. There's no way I can pay out of pocket for Orgovyx but it sure is a good match for my situation.
