Lupron or orchiectomy

For economic reasons I am contemplating orchiectomy. I say “contemplating” because, the idea occurred some time ago and I haven’t yet done it. My next orchiectomy “window “ comes up at month’s end when my 3 month Lupron is scheduled.

My wife had pretty much talked me into another postponement, when i read a recent post (sorry no short term memory for Author) on topic of Lupron and Metformin. If I understand it correctly Lupron increases blood sugar and trying to bring it down with high doses of Metformin causes microbiome damage. If that is correct, would that be another argument in favor of orchiectomy?

I see no good reason in your post to take such a drastic permanent step. I have been on lupron for 12 months and now looking at taking a vacation with the hope of getting some testosterone and vigour back. You'd be nuts 🌰🌰 to take the option of a vacation off the table just yet..... 😁 DD.

One can still vacation but will need t injections.. Good luck on your strategy !✌️

I prefer 2 wheels over 4 wheels. That's just the Eunuch in me.

Too permanent and unreversible. Not a good first choice.

Tough choice. I had the orchiectomy, but that was a long time ago. I didn't have a choice.i was in my forties. Given that choice I would have taken the Lupon.

If you are on lifelong continuous Lupron, I can't see why not. Several guys on here have done it.

I have been on Lupron for two years. The lupron took my PSA down from 33 to 2.7 but that was as low as it went and back in June 2020, I added Zytiga, which brought my PSA down from 20+ to 5.7 and three months later to 1.7. So if I continue I will be a Lupron for Life kind of guy.. Tall Allen, thanks for the advice.

Just asked my MO about possibly having that done after 4 years of Lupron. Said not to do it as it tends to encourage unstable arterial plaque to break up

Had mine 2 1/2 years ago. No regrets and no Lupron for life....same no T side effects but at 70 I saw no reason to continue shots. Two jelly beans in my bag were no good to anybody. Lupron had caused them to atrophy to near nothing as noted in pathology report after removal. .

So the macho thinking doesn’t hold weight compared to taking proactive measures to hopefully extend life . Yes,it’s permanent ....But there is no cure for stage 4 APC either . It really sucks that you must contemplate the economic cost of things always . This is the system ?. It’s not right .. get what you need to survive this . 😎🎄

Wood isn’t essential to life . Keeping pc away is my friend . 🙏

“For economical reasons”...... are you responsible for the cost of treatment? In a moment of wisdom, I see many have overlooked that part of your question!!!Jc

Yes, I pay out of pocket. The orchiectomy will cost $1300.00 for physician and OR. That cost is less than two 3-month shots of Lupron. I made the appointment for a week today.

Here’s my thought / plan! If my vacation fails! I have decided to resume Eligard injections / deposits but will not accept the second one until I have a blood test!! Just because the manufacturer says every 3 months does not mean you need it! I was 100% castrated for well over a year after my ADT stopped!! My insurance was paying over $4500 per shot!!!!!!!!! There is so much wrong here!!!!!!! My thought is get what you need and nothing more!!!!Jc
