Hmm… This post may get me banned from this great forum, FOREVER!!

I didn’t even seek approval from “ my darling wife of 46 years”!

"Darling wife" and my adult son are vegetarians and my adult daughter is a vegan.

While, I’m a card carrying carnivore, (now, I don't eat half a cow, followed by a gallon of ice cream for dinner!).

A simple 6oz filet mignon will last me 2 days. And,I do vary my diet!

The only one in the house that relates to my dietary habits is “Tiger Lily”, our little 7 lb tabby cat.

A few nights a week, I’ll spring for Ahi tuna steaks for 2. Always poached, no seasoning for Lily!

She always waits in anticipation (while tapping her little paw and staring me down, “move it pal”!).

Now, I don't mean to make light of, demean or discourage those whom require strict dietary maintenance.

You're better men than I am!

So far, I'm doing well with therapy. Also, I just turned 71.

I drink more than I should every day and I'm fully aware of the potential consequences.

Damn, given the life I've lead, I'm stunned that I made to 71!

Now, why do I dare to post this drivel?

Beats the hell out of me!!

Just felt like venting tonight.

Best to all!!

AJ

Vent away brother , I’m listening and I don’t think I’ll be the only one out here in the void.

As long as you take responsibility of your actions and their consequences (like drinking heavily and eating a ton of dead animal body parts) I am cool with it.

Gotcha Brother. My definition of freedom is based in self responsibility, reliance and not hurting anyone by my actions.

That being said, I don't stagger around the house in an alcoholic daze and NEVER get behind the wheel!

Maybe? F that .. I’m mobile ..Our desert home is about to sell. Then we’ll have some dough to travel with. Come to Prescott. It’s a cool place to see . Anytime brother . It’s 60 here and I’ll be out pulling trees from heaven from their roots while the ground is moist . I pull up 50 or so a day . I’ve got 300 more to go.. Trying to over come the invasive tree of heaven . Similar to bamboo. Dam hard to stop . Take it easy brother. I’ll take it any way I can get it . Today is a good day . Thank God🙏🏼😂

Ahhh, thank you so much, very appreciated! I often feel out of place and a fraud due to the nature of this forum, and the fact I joined mostly for my husband, and especially after I read so many posts and have "gotten to know" a few of you. But I do appreciate each and every one of you and your humor, and the wealth of information I've garnered from this forum. So many thanks to all, it's really been a beacon in a kinda grayish (at times) journey so far. :)

The nature of this form is better with you aboard . It’s all gray area with APC. Men’s nature is to be stoic. Many of us were taught this . I wasn’t . I’m too much of an open book . I feel for you and all other partners of us patients .I try to make light of self in this battle of self . There is ample misery already on the plate for so many . We are swimming in the same sea.. Have a great day today 🕊✌️

Westy this was the besty... eat drink and be merry. We know the rest of the saying.. my favorite is a bone in rib -eye medium rare. Been years since I’ve had that one. I love all foods. I’m on a 90% clean diet now. But I cheat a little . . I didn’t eat any animal protein , dairy , sugar or refined foods for my first three years with pc . I feel better off for it now. I think the strick regiment helped starve the APC.. that’s my story and I’m sticking to it . . It was difficult for me , a guy that liked the fine dining too much .., Each to their own . Now if I’m invited to fine food dining I’ll still go . But I’ll never go on my own again ..I chowed down the entire Cajun food chain in Nola last October . 3 days with the cuffs off. When I got on the plane I had a rash over my torso that didn’t go away for a week. It was worth it . Who doesn’t like double fudge bread pudding or crawdaddy ettoufee ..? Our friend took us to a vegan Cajun soul food restaurant that was most awesome. Thanks for the post . Take care 😎

Now yer talkin'...my kinda eats... practically next "door" to New Orleans...*wink*...we do make a mean seafood Gumbo here (no ocean worms *wink*), complete with our mish mosh of Cajun-TexMex-Southern sides, like dirty rice, homemade sweet cornbread, spinach greens, fried taters with onyon 😉, pinto beans, and topped off with good old banana pudding!

Now I'm drooling...and waiting for someone to come cook it all...😂🙏

Until then, it's low carb, fish or chicken maybe, veggies aplenty, fruits, with a little cardboard and sawdust on the side, for a little "grit for yer crawl"! 😂😂😂

Like your post, my card have to share my fish also, if not they would just take it and run. They do the same for chicken or turkey but not when on the rate occasions when I have bison. Vegans can get cancer also and they have to take supplements to make up for what they do not get from meat .

Hey westof!

many follow a diet such as your diet. If the filet mignon is free range, grass fed and that is what you want, why not? The free range grass fed, rather than containing inflammatories has conjugated linoleic acid which inhibits cancer and some wild caught tuna shared with Tiger Lily? Good choice for an appreciative dinner companion!

Tiger Lily is like a med for you--does she get a bit of the filet mignon? She should be compensated for what she does!

Hey Currumpaw (New Mexico?)

OK, my beef is not "free range", however, I do take curcumin daily. Hoping to counterbalance the deadly effects of supermarket meat.

No, Lily does not share, her vet does not approve.

Currumpaw profile image
Currumpaw in reply to westof

Hey westof!

Someone that once ranged the Currumpaw ate free range, grass fed beef. An astute observation.

The free range has the CLA, which is another annoying thing for cancer. I'm surprised that Tiger Lily doesn't get a taste of beef.

I have a Maine Coon that came to me fully grown in March of 2008. He now has beginning kidney failure. In December 2018 I thought I'd lose him. No energy or strength and would eat miniscule amounts of food. His health, strength and energy are greatly restored although his kidney disease has only been pushed back some and stabilized. Last September I began to gently fry a slightly undercooked, free range, organically fed, air chilled, ground, vacuum packed chicken burger to him for his breakfast. He has gained a couple pounds too. He refuses the organic chicken liver. I'll try hearts. Whole Foods is his grocer! Yesterday he had his first taste of wild caught salmon with the skin gently fried. He thought that the salmon was delicious He has become an epicurean--but is doing well and I can't ask for more. He has a habit of waking me at least once a night. He is either sitting on the bathroom sink calling me to turn on the water, (that is his favorite place to drink), if not that, I am awakened with a paw stroking my cheek. He is awake. He is lonely and pets me so that I will pet him.

Your Tiger Lily is like a med. Some of us have found cats to be --if not curative-- making life easier despite what ails us. Empathetic mind readers with an IQ of 80?

Currumpaw

in reply to Currumpaw

My 12 lb lulu is the most affectionate pet that I’ve ever had . She always come to my side . Love is love . I don’t care if it’s a goldfish or a plant .. it’s love of another being. Your Maine coon needs you buddy . These pets life’s depend on us . Diabetes is bad . Sorry about that . 🧐

Currumpaw profile image
Currumpaw in reply to

Hey Whimpy-p!

He has beginning kidney disease. Diabetes would be easier to manage. He has a long hard end in front of him if he doesn't die of something else. They get bags of IV fluid under the skin and that keeps them going. He isn't there but I think he would be if not for my trying different foods such as his ground chicken burger and wild caught salmon as additions to his cat food which is necessary for the vitamins that cats need.

Lulu sounds like a treasure.

Hey monte1111!

Yep! I have two. The Garfield looking guy, as is his habit, got on the couch last night and set himself, on his butt, like a person sits, wedged between my chest and my arm. He always has to have the left side. The right doesn't work for him. I'm right handed and use the remote. he has that down! Of course he looks at me and starts purring. I wake up 2 hours later with "us" still in the same positions and he is still fast asleep!

I have 2 cats of my own. One moved two houses down but comes for lunch every day. A couple of feral cats also come for lunch. I have four feral cats that have moved in and adopted me. They are litter box trained. So long as I don't try to pick them up, they are happy. I need to trap one more and get it fixed. Two of their kittens are domesticated and think I am just the greatest. When I have visitors, it is hilarious to see all of these cats trying to get out of the cat door at the same time. I never thought I would be running a cat house when I grew up.

In our twilight years we should enjoy life. It shouldn't be a boot camp with regulations, instructions and rules. Eat what we want, sleep when we want, do what we want. At the end quality of life is far more important for me than trying to figure out the optimum diet or going through brutal chemo that may only add a few weeks or months. Just my opinion
