I’ve seen 2places mentioned for genetic testing on this forum. Is one of them better than the other? I had a bone biopsy done at MSKCC back in November but have not gotten the results back yet. It was supposedly done at MSK and not at either of the ones mentioned in posts here. Has anyone used MSK and are they as comprehensive?
What is the best place to get genetic... - Advanced Prostate...
Advanced Prostate Cancer
Go to the site of Foundation One--call 800 number, and ask away, all of your questions--IMO, they are tops period. That is all they do, Genes/DNA malfunctions and mutations, and have a vast staff of Geneticists. Where a MSK, may have one, or two--that also do other things.
The call is free and the info is priceless--as long as you ask the right questions--or ask them--what should I---meaning you should I need to know. This is what you may need---
And his care provider will have to order this from FoundationOne.
No your Doctor orders the testing. You get the Form to be filled out on-line---and print off, fill out, take to Doctor and he signs and faxes to Foundation One. As for insurance---medicare it is free if you have a supplemental Ins. Policy. Regular Insurance Pays---Foundation One can while on the phone,, ask what your Insurance company pays for the testing. They know what the insurance companies pay.
Would it be inconceivable for your treating MO to not seriously consider treatment options based on genetic testing?
I'm not familiar with treatment options over SOC that become more viable in certain mutations.
He would be modernistically behind the times and needing to take continued education courses as to Pca, and Immunology. last I looked there were over a thousand trials, tests, mouse studies in immunology about the world. Not able to count that which is still in the Lab, with no writings as of yet. And if he does not consider it---time to get another MO--seriously.
Talking to foundation one might be an option but I would have to get another biopsy so they would have tissue to analyze and that would require the doctors ok and would the insurance cover a second biopsy so close to the first one? Would MSK not do as comprehensive analysis as foundation one?
If you had a biopsy, in the last 10 years---the cores would be at the facility that did the Pathology report. They are suppose to be frozen, as well as the prostate if it was removed. And if not any material is available, they can do it from your blood. Pick up the Phone and call! What is your return on the investment in a telephone call???--->well it is information and knowledge. Is that not what you are seeking?
Also read Chugach's post--He used Foundation One --they found certain markers, that directed treatment to Keytruda--and had a PSA in the hundreds---fighting with Chemo to no avail, today he has a PSA of 1. Make the call! And they had no material--so they used his blood.
MSK is the home of some of the best genomic testing anywhere.
I hope MSK is one of the best because I’ve tried everything including brackytherapy, cyber knife, xytiga, xtandi, xofigo and both forms of chemo with no success. So I’m hoping this genetic testing will come up with a treatment that will work.
Unfortunately, there are few genomic mutations that are actionable, and those few are rare. It's an evolving field, but worth taking a look.
I hope that 10 years from now the results of genomic testing will be actionable. MDA has my current cancer cells in a clinical trial. Maybe that will help.
I'm a patient advocate for Foundation Medicine and travel across the Nation for them speaking about my journey and the lifesaving testing they do with Genomic Sequencing and the Advancement of Immunotherapies and precision targeted therapies, have visited and spoken at both their facilities in Boston and N.Carolina...im well connected in the company and can provide contacts if desired?
Mostly everyone has recommended Foundation One.since you appear to be connected, if you could provide me with the best person to talk to and their number i would appreciate it . I’m hoping to get MSK’s results when I go for my next appointment on Wednesday but would like to have it repeated at Foundation One to see if their results match Foundation Ones . How long does the analysis take? I had the bone biopsy back in October but they still didn’t have results back in December.
