My dad has prostate cancer Mets to bone diagnosed jn 2014. He’s 82
He had his first CT scan of the lung he has had several of abdominal and pelvis and all are well and stable.
But I read the radiologists findings of the lung one and it said “ 2 non specific nodule densities along the left middle fissure” and it also said no lung mass. I’m worried about the nodules. My dads oncologist appointment isn’t till November 18th I sent an email 4 days a go to the oncologist but he hasn’t responded. This is via MyChart.
Anyone had this happen to them and if so what does it mean? Should I worry

Incidental findings are very common in imaging. Non specific means they don’t know what the nodules are.
I can tell you, that when a radiologist looks at uptake values, they also look at shape and other identifiers to rule in/ our tumors.
My husband learned that he had lung artifacts as well. It’s pretty common.
I hope your dad is well. This disease produces a ton of anxiety for everybody involved and it’s our job to figure out how to manage this anxiety because it becomes overwhelming (from my experience)
Incidental findings of nodules and cysts in the lungs and other organs are very common and it leads to unnecessary tests /procedures and sometimes save lives ( Supreme Justice Ginsburg had his pancreatic cancer discovered in a routine abdominal CT scan to follow her colon cancer).
Depending in his PSA he could be studied with a PSMA PET/CT (Ga 68 or 18F DCFPyl) or with an Axumin PET/CT. This tests can detect prostate cancer with variable detection rates depending on the PSA level. The PSMA scans have a higher detection rate.
Hi Olivia. My father also had that finding last year when diagnosed. He actually had 2 CT scans within a week . The first one mentioned atelectasis and no nodules and the second one said non specific nodules and no atelectasis. I guess it's common and I think it also depends on who reads and who sees what. I think about it too and pray that they were right and that it was nothing. My father just had a CT scan today and bone scan tomorrow since his PSA went up to 1.27 and I'm akso terrified. Take care ❤
In May of 2018, the CT scan revealed something on my liver and a spot the size of a quarter on my right lung. I was administered Firmagon, and at my first Pet scan in July, the spot on my liver was considered to be a cyst(also MRI in June) and the "thing" on my lung was now the size of a dime. Then, in September 2018 I started taking Zytiga with Prednisone. The Pet scan in July of 2019 revealed a non-cancerous scar my lung, and the tumor the size of a baseball in my pelvis was reduced to a thickening of the rectal wall(no cancer revealed). No cancer in my prostate, seminal vesicles, pelvic lymph node was evident at this scan. The Oncologist said three days ago that I am in remission, and that we are lucky. Again I mentioned God, prayer, plant-based diet(for the most part). He said that we are lucky. I think he's a schmuck!
I am 10 years younger than your dad and had the same situation. My pulmonologist did a high resolution CT three years in a row then released me as there was no change.
"Nodules" is a non-specific term used by radiologists to describe what they see. Nodules are common on CT scans of the lungs and usually do not mean much of anything. Certainly worth talking to the MO about; certainly not an emergency. Take a deep breath.
Did your Dad ever smoke? If he did I assume he's stopped, so when? I had a spot on my lung and they kept watching it and it never changed, good news.... Bad news I have a lung melanoma which metastasized from a melanoma on my neck. It's being treated with Keytruda and so far it's working. BTW does your dad have shortness of breath? Just watch it and it probably is nothing to worry about.

Today things are improved, so it’s a good day. Had a BP scare ( stuck at 218/110 ) .. got it fixed , wife was tripp’in ... 122/80 now... everybody’s more relaxed today. Already had all the drama I can use, didn’t need any more of that.
Let’s both finish the weekend on a positive note and look forward to the best coming week possible. Doesn’t seem like that’s asking a lot.
I have nodules in ny lungs and my voice box, the nodules did not mean cancer, said at my age (68) that it was part of getting older. The others is from being in choirs over nany years so do not panic . So glad he made it to 82, hope I am that lucky to make it there and beyond.
