I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer last year after bone pain sent me to the ER. I have mets all over my torso and skull. I have been on Lupron since then and through a course of Taxotere. My PSA dropped from 444 ng/mL to 7 ng/mL but started to go back up, so now Xtandi and Xgeva have been added to the mix. My PSA is now down slightly but my testosterone continues to creep toward 50 ng/dL.
Berberine inhibits CYP2C8 and the prescribing information for Xtandi says to avoid inhibiting that cytochrome enzyme.
Has anyone experience taking berberine along with Xtandi?

Let the PSA be your guide. We can get carried away with what in hindsight was trivia - testosterone levels are not important to follow if you are on Xtandi. The Xtandi will get less effective over time, and you may be unlucky and get adverse side effects. At that point (or the PSA going up again), you can try intravenous Vitamin C (no good at all via the mouth!) and reduce the dose of Xtandi if necessary (e.g. 1 capsule a day instead of 4). That combination is far more effective than Xtandi alone, and can be effective for years. If you can keep the PSA down near the 1 mark (or below) for some time AND get your immune system working as best as you can (see other posts on diet), there is an excellent chance nearly all those original cancer sites will slowly become inactive and the pain associated with them will fade too. Take a look at the research on Astaxanthin (natural accuring microalgae. I have bone mets and am taking nothing but Astaxanthin (72 mg a day) and that’s it. Bone mets stable and alkaline phosphatase number coming down. I have been living with a PCa diagnosis since Nov 2008. Nothing left for me except chemo and I’ve chosen not to go that route again, to many side effects. Trusting God for my outcome but either way, I’m ok with. The best to you.
That’s it since I stopped taking a chemo trial drug, Votrient, at the end of April 2019. The Votrient did a number on my bone marrow causing me to have 6 blood transfusions. But yes, other the Lupron and taking 72mg of Astaxathin, a natural occurring microalgae, a day.
My last CT which was in May showed my bone mets, primarily in my spine and sternum, were “stable” and the lesion that had been growing in my right lung, was gone, which totally surprised my oncologist. All I can say after traveling this journey
10 1/2yrs is God has been good to me for some reason. I thank Him and praise Him every day that He gives me and tell my story to others suffering from this evil disease.
