testoterone and supplements

hello all i have gleason 6 mri score 2 working with sloan keeping an eye on it as of now.. i had been taking a few supplements that could increase testosterone levels . should i discontinue taking them . they have many positive reasons to take them but having prostate cancer is concerning me. thank you for the help one is indian ginseng or ashwaghda the other is adrenal energy from life extension

Hi Blizzard,

You don't say what your testosterone [T] is. Very likely, it isn't high. In any case, there is no supplement that will increase T significantly.

In my view, with a Gleason of 6, I would have a T test. If it is low (below 350 ng/dL), I would read all of the recent studies showing poorer prognosis with low T. (Actually, it is free T that more accurately describes T status, but most studies use total T.)

If you do have the test, please report back.

It’s good news that you don’t know what your testosterone is. Most of us know exactly and it’s not much. Good for you.

Maintaining normal T levels is important for prostate health. Check with your AS doctor before taking any supplements.

Testosterone supplements are a sham. If they worked, pro and college athletes would be consuming huge amounts and every high school kid would be trying to get them. The only evidence I have read on supplements are anecdotal about how a guy 'feels'. Energy, strength, etc. They never just do a testosterone test. That would be easy and cheap.
