Laser use on the spine for bone mets.

I'm ready to begin a little research on whether laser is being used to alleviate pain and bone mets to vertebra. I spoke to a friend who had laser surgery to her L4/L5 to alleviate sciatica. She was intended for fusion surgery when someone gave her some very good advice to check out a doc who uses laser.

So, of course, I'm thinking can this work for my husband. The reason I ask here is because we do know each doc has his specialty and sticks to it. I need a broader view.

We could be advised to re-radiate L4 since it is lighting up again, with some sciatica.

I try to be prepared prior for doctor appts... since we've been working this for 12 years and have had success with QOL.. thanks very much...

My wife can get the sciatica , it’s brutal . If there is said to be a fix go for it . That pain can disable ..a laser sounds good to me . Better than a knife. I Hope that he can get past this pain . They say pain warns us when something is wrong . We know something is wrong.. we just want the pain to end . Please let me know how it goes . Good luck .. 🙏

Thanks Lulu... The process is going to take a while to shift through. We usually try to get a team of people - their opinions and then proceed. Yes, pain is a game changer, that's for sure.

I've just began reading about SBRT. I have so many questions- I actually don't even know the type of radiation he had. I certainly have work to do on this. Thank you SO much..

I had radio frequency ablation on my major T12 met. MO would have preferred to radiate, but it was pressing on the spinal cord and needed immediate attention. RFA is not a laser, but also not that invasive. They put a very big needle/wire into the location guided by imaging. And then it heated (or was it froze) the spot. Result was an empty spot that the tumor shrank from and then they added some cement to keep it strong. Pain relief was almost immediate. Went from severe nerve pain from even moving an inch, to happily getting out of bed the next morning. I was SORE for a week and felt like I had been hit with a brink on my back. But IMMEDIATE change from the nerve pain that was just gone.

My husband's MO ended his treatment w/6 doses of Radium 223, to address pelvic and sacrum bone mets... it worked, now officially in remission ♡ it was a long road of Lupron, Jevtana, Zytiga and Radium 223. He is now a 2 time survivor, keep up your good fight!!

He has PC 13yrs ago and was treated w/seed implants. This time around a tumor had appeared outside the prostate w/bone mets. Tumor and pain (in low back n pelvic area) were gone after 2nd Lupron dose. His dr has said he "is in remission, no cancer". His PSA has remained at 0.01to 0.03 thru out all of his treatments. No he did NOT have prostate removed.
