Why two tests?

Mikes PSA has risen from 2.0 to 3.5 in the last 2 months after an initial decline in Xtand. The PSA has been slightly rising since it’s Xtandi nadir of 1.0 in September. They are having him stay on it while they do scans to check for progression. He had a full body CT scan with contrast last Monday and this coming Monday an NM bone scan. What will the bone scan tell us that the CT scan from last week won’t? It seems like they are drawing this out...😡

It's a good idea to check for radiographic progression when there is PSA progression. The Xtandi may still be doing a good job at suppressing metastases, even while PSA is beginning to rise. You don't want to give up on a drug while it's still working.

Give it more time please?

If he hasn’t had a base line with a nuclear bone scan, he should. Periodly and at each treatment juncture also. From 2003 to 2010 and then again in 2016, two dozen none scans and CT scans. As explained to me, skeletal and soft tissue scans. They go hand in hand.

However, there are a lot of men in the world who think they are smarter than their medical oncologist and simply blow off scans and further treatment. Reminds me of my best friends who was a conspiracy nut about Big Med and Big Pharm....... I went to his funeral.
