Has anybody had experience of a blockage from the kidney ? ( Advanced PC Gleeson 9.5 since 2017 , had chemo , radio , Zytiga, xtandi - no meds currently .)
My husband has some kind of obstruction to the flow of urine from the left kidney. He has intense back pain at the moment. The urologist has suggested a nephrostomy .

I was diagnosed in July 2012 due to a urinary blockage. I had a PCa tumor in my bladder. They were able to insert kidney stents to restore the urine flow. After about 8 months they were able to remove the last kidney stent - after ADT and radiation therapy had shrunk the size of the tumors.
My husband had severe pains in his side last July, went to drs, sent to hospital, had a scan, and diagnosed APC stage 4, Gl 9, PSA 310. what a shock that was. He finished off having a nephrostomy(stent fitted) due to having problems urinating, that was due to swollen lymph nodes, (left kidney). Then he had Chemo, and had his stent removed 2 months ago due to the fact that the nodes had shrunk right back, and the kidney is now functioning ok. He is to start radiation therapy in 3 weeks time.
The operation to have a stent fitted was quite simple as an outpatient took about an hour all in all, it was all the pre-med stuff and waiting around that took all the time. He felt a little sore for a couple of days, and that was all, my husband is 62yrs and apart from APC in good health.

No, once it was in (They inserted a very fine needle and tube through his back, under local anaesthetic,) but after a few months when it came out, they took it out a different way, but my husband was 'put under' for that , and he says his groin was a bit sore for a week or so. so far everything back to normal
It could save his life..
Good that his kidneys are ok .. did he have tubes in his kidneys or a stent or both ? Just curious. Either way , Thank God he and I are free from that now. Take care
He just had one stent fitted in his left kidney , this is the time (because of the pain in his stomach) that we found out about the APC, maybe we would still not have found out about that yet.It was the swollen lymph nodes blocking his kidney. Because the chemo did a good job, they took the stent out, and didn't have to put one back it, so that was good news. Glad to hear yours is out as well

Yes, my husband doesn't speak about all this very much, he hates all the too-ing and fro-ing to tne hospital Drs etc. he just wants to get on with his life. He has a very positive attitude, which of course is good. Its me that being a bit of a wuss. but think a lot of women (as I read from other posts by ladies) feel the same as I do. 8 months down the line, and I can speak about it to other people without tears in my eyes.
Have a more positive attitude after finding this site, and chatting to others like you. Family and friends only want to hear how hes doing, not all the gory details.!

My family and friends wrote me off four years ago . Only my wife by my side. That’s all I need. This is so personal between couples . The best thing you can do for him is to take excellent care of yourself first. You’re sharing this dam pc with him. It effects both parties. Love is the cure .
Not sure if this is a case of "different strokes for different folks" but here it is:
I had 8 weeks of salvage radiation to "the bed". 5 days a week (not weekends) for 8 weeks minus 1 day for a total of 39 sessions. The actual radiation was like getting an x-ray by my dentist. I never had any side effects during the whole 39 sessions. However 2 years later my left urinary tract was "fried" as per my urologist (or from passing prior kidney stones he was not sure). So i had to have a urinary stent placed up my urinary tract (through my willy which is really nothing - sounds terrible but it's nothing) to aid in passing my urine (which was never a problem anyway). So I had stents in and out every three months for many years and now I'm stent free, However today 15% of urine from left kidney and 85% from right kidney, but not a problem.

I did the Same RT ...my stints were colonized each 3 days after a new oil change ,every time.. . Constant heavy antibiotics saved me but caused damage to joints bones and immunity. So are saying that now you only have 15% outflow in one and 85%in the other? Any discomfort in that? What caused that damaged left kidney ?
yep 15 and 85..... no discomfort.

I had a small kidney stone that was removed. A stent was left in and a string was put in place through the penis so I could remove it a week later. There was a big buildup to the removal...take 2 OxyContin an hour before. Take a deep breath and pull. But it was a non event...the thin rubber tube slipped out with no discomfort. The only problem was that the OxyContin made me ill.
see my post above yours,,,, I was getting in and out stents for many year and no problems. no pain no nuttin. Too bad about the Oxy....

I am humbled that you too experienced the cath lab operations for some time. I did not know.. wow.. I’m glad that we are done with that part of the journey .. I pray for those in that position ,to improve.. peace to you j-o-h-n
That really does sound crazy man . Mine were inserted and changed every three months all under anesthesia . Never felt anything.
