Just got first shot of Lupron yesterday, I have been on casodex for 24 days so far . Got prescription from doctor who dx me . I asked RO how long should I be on it . He said I usually do 2 weeks of casodex before Lupron shot so I say I have another 40 pills left he says take them .... is more better then ? Thoughts

ADT will work a bit better when combined with Casodex. In your case, since you are Gleason 10, I would add Casodex 50mg to get this benefit. However, not just while the pills last. Do it as long as you will have ADT.

Also have Testosterone checked regularly. In some patients Lupron does not reduce the testosterone level as much as expected by your doctor.

Hello,

Your doctor prescribed Casodex (bi-calutamide), quite correctly, to counteract the effects of a testosterone "surge" or flare which is common when you begin your lupron shots. A testosterone flare can create a big problem depending on how aggressive your cancer is. For that reason, some urologists and oncologists prefer to prescribe Firmagon (degarelix) initially because there is no flare with an antagonist as opposed to lupron type drugs (e.g. Eligard, Zoladex, etc.) which are agonists. I would finish all the Casodex pills in the bottle. In reference to what GP24 says, you might want to talk to your doctor about staying on Casodex for awhile so you have a "double blockade". For your information, Casodex (bi-calutamide) belongs to the same family (the Lutamide family) as its big brother Xtandi (enzalutamide). A good reaction to "bi" now might be a good predictor to a good reaction to "enza" down the road. Hope that helps,

This trial tested the addition of Casodex/Bicalutamide to Lupron. They report a 22% reduction of risk of death when Casodex was added.

You'll know very shortly how you react to this combination. After 5 wks on bical my PSA was nearly obliterated as was my T. 4 months of eligard has me in remission PSA .04. I was quickly removed from bical on my first Doc visit....I was offered zytiga compassionatly in lieu of bical removal as I was heavily metastatic...its hopefully finishing off the stragglers...we'll see.... I feel like i won a lottery....silver linings..ps..dont worry about bone and joint pain as the disease retraces....its a good indication of metastatic bone cell death especially if you arent in pain now. I was near crippled in my pelvic girdle after starting ADT...so dang fragile I nearly needed crutches..all that passed a month in.

Stay strong and keep up your healthy routines..it'll speed up the process.

I was on casodex for three years as well as trelstar or Lupron and dutasteride. I’m still on the latter plus I’ve been on metformin and rosuvastatin for many years. With Gleason 10 it can’t hurt to throw everything at it. I’m Gleason 9 and still trucking but I’ve had lots of tx. See my profile.

Has it kept it straight down the fairways...always nice to get a bonus for all the schit we put up with keeping ourselves alive. 🤨

I’m having trouble hitting fairways and greens these days. Low T is a bitch for endurance, distance and accuracy (due to brain fog) even though I work out hard. Just sayin...

...well as little as we like to admit...it’s a ready made excuse..I haven’t hit a green since I first felt the Mets which I completely ignored for three summers...tried to respond to the crippling pelvic pain with keagles. I’m wondering what my remission is going to do for my wf’in.
