Blood in Urine
Dad went to ER last night with blood in urine. They said it was UTI. He will follow up today with his doctors. Has anyone experienced this - since on the surface - blood in urine is not good with advanced prostate.
No it is usually not a good sign. UTI usually starts with irritation in urination, followed by more pain, and sometimes referred pain to the small of the back. If there was Radiation to the Prostate, or Removal by surgery with positive margins, that may have included Seminal Vesicles----> Doctor---ASAP.
And if the infection starts advancing up the ureters towards or into the kidneys -- chills/fever, night sweats.
The advance based on night sweats, Chills/Fever, can be indicative of an infection moving up stream. Anyway you look at--need to head to the Doctor. Homeopathically if simple UTI we can treat with pure unadulterated Cranberry Juice sipped thru the day for 2 days.
But when there is fever, this is a sign of infection, beyond simple UTI. So it is either anti-biotics, or evaluation of there being cancer Mets.
Blood in my urine was PCA spreading to my bladder. 18 rounds of radiation fixed it. Good luck.
I had blood in urine which led to my advanced PCa diagnosis. Since my dad had bladder cancer they did a cystoscopy as well, and found both a bladder tumor and a prostate metastasis in the bladder neck. Yep, I had a bonus cancer...
The can be other reasons: infection, prostatitis (if he still has a prostate), and if there's been radiation treatments the scar tissue can bleed. Definitely worth getting checked!
I had prostate removed 13 years ago and radiation 7 years ago and just started having blood in urine last year. Had it scoped last summer and it showed scar tissue causing it, but clean for lesions , still have it occasionally.
Admitted to Cleveland clinic today. He is getting scoped. Very hard to urinate and what he does urinate is all blood. Few big clots as well. Hope it works out
Hope things work out well for you. Good luck.
Good he's in the hospital for help. Blood in the urine can be very frightening. So I wish your DAD many poly wants Good Luck, poly wants Good Health, poly wants Good Humor.
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Just got back from urologist who couldn't see with cystoscope a source for the blood in my husband's urine/bladder. CAT scan showed nothing harmful other than enlarging retroperitoneal lymph nodes on right side after oncologist switched him from taxotere to Jevtana last September. Cultures of the bloody urine did not grow. It is a mystery to the urologist. I think it is linked to the Jevtana infusions which had to be cut back 20% due to platelet count crashing below 50 with first cycle. The blood first appeared two days after infusion #8 and slowly faded over the 3 week cycle. The same thing happened with #9 & #10. Three times is the charm for me. The oncologist had stopped checking blood work after one week with #3. What is the PSA doing? We don't know because it has been more than a week since the blood work with no word. This wouldn't be the first time the sample got lost while on Jevtana. I suspect that the clinic alternates labs as the numbers usually zig-zag across a trend line. The last reading was higher than the previous two. This cycle has a side-effect new to my husband: nausea.
Then to top it off he goes to re order his Zytiga and the pharmacy asks him if he is going to need them for next month. Didn’t help his Mental after that
It is not a good sign but not one to be worried about especially if the doctors concluded with a UTI. It could have been caused by a small stone or something minor. I am sure the doctors would have already made a prescription. But usually a dose of antibiotics are prescribed. This is good in the fact that it will help to provide relief from symptoms and also to cure the UTI. But antibiotics kill both healthy and bad bacteria and throw the gut flora off balance which can have poor consequences on digestion and overall immune system.
Some recommendations I can make are D-Mannose, Hibiscus extracts, lots of water and most importantly probiotics. Probiotics are healthy bacteria that help to fight against E.Coli which is mostly responsible for causing UTIs and other harmful bacteria. They support digestion, urinary tract and gut as well. I would recommend your dad to use some probiotic supplements. I have used Flourish Probiotics by Eu Natural. This is bad from a rich combination of healthy bacteria that are great for overall health and well being and greatly helps with urinary tract problems and infections.
I hope this helps
