CANCER VACCINE

My husband saw his Oncol. last Fri. for his monthly treatment.

She mentioned that UCSF is doing a clinical trial for a cancer vaccine I think called Sipuleucel-T .

This vaccine is for all cancers. She referred us to UCSF so are waiting to see if he is accepted.

Question: Is anyone familiar with this trial?

Thanks in advance!

UCSF is on top of clinical trials with Dr Eric Small. I met with somebody in his group but did not qualify for any trials at that moment. Sipuleucel-T sounds like PROVENGE. If it is, Provenge is already approved and you can get it right now without the rigors of a trial. The only way anybody would do a trial of PROVENGE is if no insurance and need a trial to cover the costs.

Yes, it is PROVENGE.

I was going to apply for this but the trail says psa has to be greater than .8. When was it approved please?

Actually, I did a search and found UCSF is running a combo trial of Provenge (Sipuleucel-T) with CTLA-4. I could be wrong, but I heard that CTLA-4 as a single use therapy failed the trials for Prostate Cancer. Combination of 2 immune therapies CTLA4 and PROVENGE is very new and cutting edge. I read that combination immune therapies may work much better than single use therapy, and get good results without the severe side effects of traditional Chemo. I would absolutely look into it. UCSF is one of the best.

A recent test of a combo of checkpoint inhibitors (CHECKMATE 650) had disappointing results and extremely high toxicity. Maybe this combo will do better.

I just realized Yervoy isn't an option for MCRPCa.

Otherwise, I'd consider topping off this Provenge session with ipimilumab while I'm still sportin' a Groshong.

Groshong? That's a new one, will add it to my list just after Pee Pee. Thanks...

Thanks all for the replys.

As I understand, it is not Provenge, perhaps similar to.

It also isn't Dr. Eric Small.

I believe it is a Dr. Fong at UCSF who is heading this trial.

It also isn't only for PCA but for all cancers.

Is this getting any closer? I think it's new cutting edge and she (Oncol.) was very positive about this Vaccination. She mentioned it's only blood draw and can be kept for future use.

Here's UCSF's current list of currently recruiting Clinical Trials for prostate cancer, associated with Dr. Fong.

I love humor but I'm a pessimist.... Last and only time I found a needle in a haystack was in my youth when it stuck her in the ass. What a time .... ho hum... (p left off intentionally).

I am on a triple blockade therapy for the time being. I am on Xtandi, Keytruda, and APCEDEN true autologous dendritic cell vaccines. Xtandi about a year, Keytruda for 8 months, and 2 years of on and off of the vaccines. The vaccines melted about 30 tumors in 2 months all that were up into my cheekbone, spine, and sacrum in addition to lymph nodes up to my neck. When I am the combo I am fine. I am at 18 months of stable disease with just my prostate still showing hot on the PSMA PET scans. Take one away and things start going wacky. As long as I am on the combo the last tumor continues to shrink and is about a third the size from when August, 2014 when I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer with a PSA of 212, and Gleason of 9. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop, and hoping it won't.
