OK, 2 weeks into the trial. 75% of participants get nausea, vomiting. I never do anything the way others do so none of that for me. Instead constipation with stool as hard as concrete. Miralax, senokot magnesium citrate, Gavrilate. Nothing. So into the ER where the X-ray shows "you're full of it". Well my wife has been telling me that for lo these many moons but I don't think she meant it literally. A nurse made the insightful comment that all the stuff I'd been taking was top down and what I needed was bottom up. Too true; a soapsuds enema and it worked. I don't envy the guy who had to clean up the room. Everything tickety-boo since then. As far as constipation goes.
But the severe constipation made it also impossible for me to urinate. So the ER put a Foley catheter in me and took out 2 liters of urine. The catheter was needed. On a temporary basis but then I didn't need it anymore and wanted it out. I won't bore you with the details but the level of bureaucracy and red tape was truly unbelievable. Fortunately I had to go to the VA for a check two days later and they didn't bother with bureaucracy. Catheter out (yes, I did scream but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be) and I've been peeing and defecating normally since then.
However I do NOT want a repeat and have been taking senokot and prune juice ever since. And my primary care (who is really great) has given me a scenario for if things go wrong in the future. So I feel good.
Bottom line: if you feel something is going wrong with your side effects, do NOT wait - get it taken care of.
I said I never do anything anybody else does and that's true with side effects. The constipation was 35% of participants, but I had another. My energy level has greatly increased. We normally think of side effects s being always negative but here is a positive one. Hey, I may be able to get back out to the rifle range pretty soon. I feel that I could do it now; just need some warmer weather.
