Just came here for a second opinion for my husband with Dr. Eric Kim Urologist. My husband was in so much pain he couldn’t walk or sit. I tried calling 911 in the hallway but the nurse came out and helped in get in a room, the Dr came in and said he had read all his reports and he’s a complicated case. He said we’re going to put you in the hospital for pain meds and we’re going to reevaluate what’s going on. He said his lower spine feels like a softball is there. I’m waiting to register him and they have taken him to his room and gave him a pain pump. I don’t know if his cancer has spread or it’s from the kidney tubes . I like the Dr though. At a teaching hospital associated with Siteman ‘s

Thank you, they are taking him down for a cat scan now , he can’t put any pressure on his tailbone . It’s so sad.

It is terrifying ... can’t give up hope... We must fight hard to live with APC. All we have to do to perish from it , is to give up.. at some point we all will be in those shoes.. let those docs perform miracles now... Pull him out of this ditch.. God Bless...

I've got a feeling the doctor is really going to help him with the pain. Sending prayers for a quick relief.

look i'm on my 11 year after doing my 2nd bone scan and cat scan they found 2 mets in my back. my oncologist suggested when the pain gets bad they will give me pain meds, if the pain meds don't work after some time they will radiated it. will i don't wait for anything i'm aggressive i won't treatment now.so i'm getting a 2nd opinion with a urologist for their suggestion. my oncologist is a maintance dr he does what i suggest nothing on his own. i was told when i asked for a 2nd opinion your new doc is a urologist. i checked out the definition of both and guess what they are same. remember its your husband is having problems not the stupid docs. if u do get a 2nd opinion down't go to the same place find another doc or group separate from your group or who knows your doctor.

Thank you, yes our second opinion and now hospital stay is at Barnes Jewish in Saint Louis MO , Siteman Cancer center is part of it. Our primary cancer choice last Dx and this Dx is cancer centers of American Zion ILL so two completely different facilities. We also have a appointment at Mayo Clinic with the head of the department on Mar 4th but not sure what’s going to happen here . So far they found he has Ischemic or Ischemia Colitis from the top of his intestine all the way down into his rectum. That’s why he couldn’t walk or sit besides the Kidney tubes being a bother also he is in much distress . I hope his body can handle another surgery.

I’m so sorry to hear about you hubby’s painful condition, but glad you found the source of the problem so it can be treated. Apparently, for an unlucky few, ischemic colitis can be caused by hormone drugs, like the ones many of us take. From what I’ve read in the Merck Manual, etc. it is usually easily treatable with IV liquids and antibiotics. I hope and pray it goes away soon for him. Thoughts and prayers coming his (and your) way!

Thank you for the information. They now say they are not 100% sure yet, more digging into tomorrow. He hasn’t had hormone shots or radiation for 10 years during his first DX 2008, his second DX recurrence April 2018 suggested Salvage

Prostatectomy and that was fine Aug 2, nothing but continued to be worse and worse since that surgery it seems.

Hey Kimmilemo, I am from St Louis and my father spent a lot of time at Siteman, may he rest in peace (2013). The urologists were top notch! Dr Catalona did his radical prostatectomy many years ago (1993). He was instrumental in developing the nerve sparing surgery. He has moved onto Chicago (Northwestern, I think), but a lot of his proteges are still at Siteman.

Radiation Oncologists at Siteman were really great, loved them. Had some issues with the medical oncologist, but I hear Dr Bruce Roth is great, wish Dad could have seen him.

Good luck!

Ahhh thanks for your input . Still not sure 100% on anything yet. They are going to do two probes or exploration tomorrow on the bladder and rectum. The Salvage prostatectomy is a lot of the culprit they think all his problems are coming from that surgery that was fine at Zion cancer centers of America . I guess it’s Russian roulette if you have had a lot of radiation prior too . The radiation and hormones gave him almost 10 years with being cancer free so to say. This DX 2018 selvedge prostatectomy in aug. kidneys, bladder now bowels all shot. Not sure what’s next. Good news they didn’t see any Mets in CT scan but who knows is they even can see them that way, but now he cannot eat anything without having bowel accidents as if total incontient isn’t enough. Thank you for reaching out. Only seeing Dr. Eric Kim’s and team urology and colon rectal team they are doing the procedures tomorrow.
