Has anyone had jumps like this
.9 to 13.1 in 3 months. : Has anyone... - Advanced Prostate...
.9 to 13.1 in 3 months.
Yes. When I became castrate resistant, my PSA was doubling every 3 weeks which looks about the same as what you have. In 3 months there are roughly 4 periods of 3 weeks so for you it would be .9, 1.8, 3.6, 7.2, 14.4. Your last was 13.1 so it's fairly close. That's approximately the same as I had.
My doctor said he often sees this kind of fast rise with patients who have done chemotherapy. I started Zytiga and soon after it was undetectable.
Did your spread to bones?
I was diagnosed at stage 4 a year before that PSA rise. At that time I had extensive mets to my bone. It's improved since then, but not by a large amount. The PSA rise was about a year after diagnosis.
I just read your dad's treatment history. Looks like he is currently on Lupron, Zytiga and Prednisone. Is that correct? If so, how long has he been on Zytiga and Prednisone?
3 weeks.
Never chemo. Just seeds Lupron
Now Zytiga and pred.
So he has been on Zytiga for only 3 weeks? My doctor told me that we should wait 2 months after starting Zytiga before rechecking my PSA.
Yes. Going feb for re check.
Just curious if you don't mind: When was the 13 reading in relation to Zytiga start?
Both December.
Take that back. Results before Xmas.
Doctors 1/3. Zytiga started 9 th.
So it won’t be 2 months on 2/6.
Maybe us asking questions about being aggressive prompted this. But if your saying it takes 2 months. It won’t be a good reading.
Taking it on 2/6 will be fine, just try not to get too stressed if it's not lower than the last one. It very well may be lower, but another reading possibly in March might tell you more. Hopefully he will have many undetectable PSA tests.
Sounds like he started Zytiga at the same times as the 13 reading.
That's almost the same thing that happened to me, although I waited for one more doubling to 26 before starting. After starting Zytiga my PSA dropped to .1 in 5 weeks, then 3 months later (last reading) it was undetectable. My response was not unusual so hopefully your dad will get a great response like I did.
The doubling rate is important. Those results call for an immediate retest, and an immediate visit to the doctor. Yesterday.
A little background on me. Diagnosed in 2009, prostatectomy same year, RT for 13 weeks in 2010, nothing until 2012 when PSA began to rise. Lupron every 3 months for 4 years
When Lupron by itself stopped working I was getting PSA blood work every 3 months. I went from 0.01 (basically unreadable) to 75 in 3 months. We added Zytiga and Prednasone in 2016, and until late this year that took it back down to the 0.01 level, then over 3 months it rose to 3.74, so now Xtandi. And in 2 weeks it's down to 3.5. I expect it to keep dropping.
I still have no mets, so it's still under some kind of control. Have to say I'm very happy to be off of the Prednasone as I was bruising and gained about 30 pounds that are beginning to drop off again.
So yes I have experienced that kind of doubling and worse, and yet, here I am still in the moment, still happy, and hopeful that at some point there will be a cure before I start any chemo.
Peace Brother,
Bees
Thank you. So never spread to your bones. - hope it works that good after spreading. Thank you
Up 10 pts in 6 weeks after prostatectomy . 54 to 64 instead of dropping to near Zero. Two months after clear scans, new ones showed lymph nodes and bones. Now all better after chemo and xtandi.. Zero testosterone so new life.
Yes, last I was off Lupron, my PSADT was less than a month. The statistics will scare the crap out of you but the ADT medications available do a lot, so stick with the ADT and keep a close eye for when it may become castrate resistant....the onto the next weapon of choice! We are fortunate to have these options to continue treating this disease as it progresses.
