I've read a few news articles on this report but none of them mention dosage? My dad is only on 40mg of Avorstatin. Anyone know if that would be sufficient and if Avorstatin is a good one to take? Also the second study you linked mentions aspirin. My dad used to take low dose aspirin occasionally but as far as I know he stopped. I wonder if it would have immediate impact or if its something you really have to take 10+ years to notice a difference at all? Any of you take low dose of aspirin?

My dad takes simvastatin, forget the dose, but I think it's pretty standard (as in his cardiologist would approve of the dose). Dad's oncologist stated that the effects of the statin accumulate over time, so it is not something that would be make a difference immediately, but over time.

Bud,

I have been taking a baby aspirin and Crestor every day for many years, but not sure it helps the PCa, which I am fairly new to (18 mo). The Crestor is a low dose, 10mg, and I am thinking of asking my cardiologist to up that.

Garbonzeaux,

As I understand it, Rosuvastatin (Crestor) is relatively hydrophilic. You want to be taking a lipophilic statin like simsvastatin, atorvastatin, or lovastatin. I am not a physician or a pharmacist so I would suggest talking to an oncologist about the desirable statins to take in fighting Pca. This area is being actively investigated at this time so things may have changed.

Good idea, Cal. Scheduled to meet with MO tomorrow. I'll bring it up.

I talked to my MO about switching from Crestor to a lipophilic statin (based on literature for other types of cancer), and he said that I should definitely stay on Crestor because of recent research - we did not have enough time to get into the details unfortunately. Crestor (rosuvastatin) is one of the more effective statins for lowering cholesterol - so it is more efficacious on an equivalent dosage. A 10 mg dosage of Crestor is equivalent to 20 mg of simvastatin for example. Phil

Your doctor's choice seems sound if you are focusing on cardiovascular health factors.

I agree, since my LDL-C is elevated (due to ADT), but his recommendation was in the context of PCa - I did not mention that my LDL-C was high during our meeting. Phil

Snuffy Myers was saying Livalo might be a good option. Have you heard of that one?

By the way, how much of that IP-6 do you take, which brand, and do you take it with alkaline water? I read an study that showed IP-6 with PH-12 is most effective.

I take 7 scoops mixed in ordinary filtered water on an empty stomach (2 hours) and 7 scoops of the same powder (Enzymatic Therapy's Cell Forte) in the late afternoon. Please provide a link to the study you cite on PH-12.

I'm looking. Sometimes I find an article and then can't find it again. In the meantime, I found this: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

In the study charts you'll see that 400 and 800 (international units?) induce the highest apostisis. Do your 14 scoops equate roughly to 400-800?

CalBear74 profile image
CalBear74 in reply to GeorgeGlass

Far exceeds that amount (see my note below on equivalencies). You will find on the label of a Cell Forte canister the grams of powder in a scoop they provide and the rest is simple math. Keep in mind that IP-6 is a dose dependent medication in its action on cancer cells. Dr. Shamsuddin in his review of IP-6 cancer studies emphasizes this.

"1 IU is the biological equivalent of 0.025 mcg cholecalciferol or ergocalciferol. Vitamin E: 1 IU is the biological equivalent of 0.67 mg d-alpha-tocopherol, or 0.9 mg of dl-alpha-tocopherol."

I read so many studies i can remember... Have any studies show that taking the amount you are taking orally resulted in shower cancer progression than not taking it, or are you hypothicizing/extrapolating? Just curious because it takes pretty strong dedication to take 14 scoops a day.

Have you had side effects from it?

Thanks,

George

George,

Please read Dr. Shamsuddin's book which offers extensive reviews of research findings on IP-6. The findings repeatedly point to dose dependency in results. My own experience indicates 12 scoops daily of IP-6 powder gets results measured by PSA levels; however, I have come to believe given what other men have told me that good results - clear suppression - can be achieved with lower doses. I think the big challenge for IP-6 users is finding the dose that their body requires to be effective. Our cancer cells differ - which is why we have Gleason scores. I don't advocate 14 scoops. I think the typical prostate cancer patient should start with 3 scoops in the AM and 3 in the PM. Before starting have a PSA test. After 6-8 weeks have another test. Ratchet up the dose if the results are not satisfying. 50% increase.

I have been taking 40 of Lipitor with a baby aspirin for over 30 years. Gleason 9 came along anyway but " I woke not dead again this morning." I love Willie Nelson.

I take 40 mg of atorvastatin daily. It has had a positive effect on my cholesterol level (which is why my PCP prescribed it), But my prostate cancer, after having defeated all the standard therapies, is still going strong.

I did take a baby aspirin each day a few years ago but gave it up almost immediately as it was giving me uncontrollable nosebleeds.

Are you taking Metformin or its natural bioequivalent Berberine root? Dr. Mark Scholz recommends both in his book "The Key to Prostate Cancer". Excellent read.

Stegosaurus37 profile image
Stegosaurus37 in reply to CalBear74

Never heard of either. Not that that means much; the world is full of stuff I've never heard of. My cancer is super tough; it takes all the conventional treatments, chews them up and spits them out. So I'm only on lupron now, which isn't doing me a heck of a lot of good. Aside from the cancer I am in excellent health and always have been. The cancer is the only problem I have so I don't worry too much about other therapies.
