Hormone sensitive?

Husbands psa up to 9.5 but testerone 0.34. This has been after six rounds of chemo and a year after diagnosis. My question is if the T keeps dropping but the psa continues to creep up does it indicate still hormone sensitive?

They usually want to see radiographic evidence of progression too for castration resistance. But mets are not always evident.

Scans were good ! No progression! Lots of metastasis but nothing new.

My husband in the same position. After 4 cycles of chemo, the cancers has continued to grow. Starting new chemo next week.

Prostate cancer often remains "hormone sensitive", even when primary ADT such as Lupron fails to keep the cancer from progressing. The cancer adapts to smaller amounts of androgens, some of which are produced in the adrenal glands and are unaffected by primary ADT drugs. Second-line ADT drugs such as Xtandi or Zytiga can be effective in many cases. Something to discuss with his doctor.

During Chemo, my PSA started to climb again. Added Xtandi and down it went. Cumulative side effects were really bad at 9 cycles. Continued Xtandi and found I was suffering from excessive toxicity and cut back dosage. PSA continued to drop until 0.140 area and scans showed clear. ADT drugs + chemo + Xtandi and now in remission. ADT for hormone sensitive and Xtandi for none sensitive did the trick for me.

Good luck and don't give up acct. we never know what will work.
