Xgeva for bone metastisis

I have been on Eligard and Zytiga/Prednisone for less than a month. I have a few lesions in the pelvic bone, which I understand should benefit from this hormone treatment. My MO will also be starting me in a few weeks on Xgeva. I am interested in hearing from those of you who have experience with Xgeva.

I have been on Xgeva now for 4 years. No problems so far with it. One of the side effects that you can get is Osteonecrosis of the jaw. I haven't had this problem, but take extra care to take care of my teeth.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Osteonecrosis of the jaw affects less than 2% of the folks taking Xgeva (aka Prolia) and many doctors prefer it to Zometa (zoledronic acid). My family doctor insists on a kidney test prior to every injection. He usually checks my Creatinine, Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), and Calcium levels. I am on a maintenance dose every six months and I have been taking Xgeva/Prolia for five years. Good luck!

I had my first shot a month ago. No obvious side effects, and the potential benefits include offsetting the effects of the ADT. Go for it!

Newest study showed that zometa combined with Celebrex decreased deaths by 22%. They weren’t sure why but with minimal side affects I’m going on both for sure.

They used to think it could mess with the ❤️. Now, I think, a big study in the uk says, no, it actually may help the heart.

Been on Xgeva for six months now no side effects but a little sore at injection sites for a day or so nothing to complain about. It helps with the bone Mets go for it.

Been on Xgeva shots once a month for 2 years now, Doctors are happy about the bones mending so far , some bone pain but not bad. Stage 4 here with Mets spine and ribs

I have been taking monthly Xgeva for three months and on Xtandi going on two now. I also have mets in ribs and pelvic area. It seems to me that the pain in rib area has decreased. I was urged to take monthly Xofigo infusions, but could not get definite answers regarding effectiveness for 5 cm tumor or treatment cost. I am happy at the moment to go with the Xgeva/Xtandi combo. Are you experiencing decrease or elimination of the bone mets? Hope we both have good results.

For the most part, I have a tendency to overdo when I feel good and the rib Mets tell me the next day. Fight the good Fight

I have been on xgeva 3 months. Before starting, make sure all dental work is done. My pc sread to t3&t8. My Akaline Phosphatase on monthly blood work has been very high, indicating active C in bones. 5 days ago it was Normal. !!

I have been supplementing the xgeva shot with calcium 600, D3 and K2. Also have cereal each morning with blueberries and skim milk. And lots of prayer and thanks that the medicine is working. It worked for me. good luck

My blood work showed my alkaline phosphatase day before starting Zytiga at 248. Two weeks later it was 163. Will have updated blood work next week, and hope it will drop further. Interesting that my oncologist didn't even mention my high AP level, nor what it means.

I have gone on a non-dairy diet and found dairy free unsweetened pea milk. I started drinking it a few days ago. It apparently has twice the calcium as regular milk. The taste takes some getting used to, but I will keep using it.

mine did not either. A consulting cancer doc remarked about it. I had never heard of it

The way they found my cancer was due to high alkaline levels. Only 900 but it was a flag for my do

I have been on xgeva for 16 months,no problem,one shot a month, along with lupron,zitiga with pres.take care of your teeth an go to the dentist, no heavy dental work without checking with your mo. I do not know if it is doing good.i just hope for the best

i had dental work done before staring xgeva. no prob. on same meds as you. do you have 6 month cleanings? I am afraid to have the under the gum cleanings (deep) now that I am on xgeva Any suggestions. My 6th month is in Sept.

I go every 6 months,do not know about how deep,my alkaline phos. is 70, i think xgeva is a good drug,can only do what i got do

My dad had one shot of Xgeva and then he wasn’t able to get it again due to it causing severe hypocalcemia. Is this is a key part of treatment that he’s missing out on?

I had 72 radiations and Eligard (Lupron) for 6 and 1/2 years, and I am 73 years old. After about 1 and 1/2 years I had a MRI and my bones needed some help. I had 3 shots of Xgeva

6 months apart and all is well. It was explained to me that single cancerous prostate cells can enter the blood stream and have an affinity for bones in the pelvis area and lymph nodes. When these cells land on the bone they sink into the bone (after time). They leave a pock mark on the surface and are trapped there. Over time when many of these cells have weakened the bone, Xgeva strengthens the bone. If it has been only a few weeks that you have been on Lupron you many not need this therapy at this time, but each of us have our own reasons to start therapies. I wish you luck in your decisions. So after 6 1/2 years I stopped Eligard in June and my PSA is 0.00, but I hope this stays at 0.00! We will see. and thanks for asking good questions and keep truckin'.

You might feel a little fluy after zometa. Some get a slight fever the first time. The in three days it's ok.
