Firmagon results; on to next steps.

HopingForTheBest1 profile image

Have just completed my initial hormone treatment of being on Firmagon for past 30 days, with PSA down from 20 to 2.6. Pleasantly surprised; minimal side effects. Now started 3 mo shot of Elligard and daily doses of Zytiga and Prednisone. After having read multiple posts in this forum about these drugs, I expect side effects more than before Thankful my insurance covers all of this.

Hang in there. I had same initial results with Firmagon. Been on Lupron for four months now, Casodex for a couple of months, now on Zytiga and Prednisone on advice from second opinion. PSA latest was .5, down from high of 30. Also, exercise, cut out red meat and dairy. Gone over to a modified Mediterranean type diet. A couple of pelvic bone mets are a worry. I'm going to revisit going on Xgeva. I feel good overall.

Thanks for the reply. How are your bone mets being monitored, and are any of the meds supposed to hopefully reduce them?

Now were going to get that PSA dont to 0.3 or even 0.1 by month 5 or 6....(me and you are on the same exact plan...) I like your odds of getting that PSA to 0.1, the odds favor you...you are on the right treatment plan....

I'd like to see a bone scan evry 6 months and a CT scan every 6 months, and a PSA every 3-4 months and then a MONTHLY hepatic test of the liver enzymes (this is required by the FDA i think, relating to the Zytiga, it can mess with Alkaline Phosphotase, ALP and AST, so lets monitor those 3 things every month with new blood work...)

PSa 550 in March. Received initially a double shot of Firmagon. Next month PSA went down to 65. Monthly injections and comprehensive blood tests followed. By August 9 PSA lowered to 12 . Now the doctor wants me to switch to Lupron Zytiga and prednisone. Why change when Firmagon is working? All the best to you and the

responders.

The combination therapy being recommended can be more effective in lowering your PSA. It was for me as my PSA has gone down to 0.5 from 2.6 after 30 day Firmagon shot with switching to this combo 6 weeks later. I find it more convenient with less pain and side effects, by having the 90 day Eligard (Lupron) shot along with the daily Zytiga/Prednisone regimen. This combo is also beneficially reducing my alkaline phosphatase level from 268 to 133, which indicates healing of my pelvic bone mets.
