My current Onc is in Houston, and sadly, he himself is battling his own health issue and have not been seeing patients for the better part of a year. Does anyone in this group can suggest Oncs in the Dallas area that are active in clinical research for the treatment of APC? I m not looking for ones that are by the book Standard of Care type Oncs. Thanks.

Eleni Efstathiou would be my top choice at MD Anderson. She is at the forefront of the latest developments, and she can tell you about all the clinical trials there. Oliver Sartor at Tulane is a legend. I'm sure there are good medical oncologists at UT Southwestern but none comes immediately to mind.

Hi Cmdr.... I hope you had a better report. I was there today. My numbers are still great. Not sure who is in the clinic driver's seat, but Dr A agreed that I could go on twice a year. Although he is not in clinic, Dr A is working a full schedule mainly in research with a light teaching load. I was told that he is at work everyday. Seems to be doing well and is in good spirits. I have passed 14 years with him. drop me an email with phone number, so that I can call and visit.

Question to all: Why do we disguise the names of our Doctors? Dr. A, Dr. B and etc.

Good Luck and Good Health.

John, no disguise. Dr A is what his patients and staff call him and I have used him name multiple times. Dr. Robert John Amato. If you are interested in his research, I have posted that in messages many times as well. Keep kicking the bastard.

Thank you, you too. I'm still kicking the bastard, the son-of-bitch kicks back.

Note: Being curious I did a google search on his name and I noticed a warning letter from the FDA that you may or may not be aware of. Here it is:

It was relatively a long time ago. He is a researcher and tailored our disease treatment as needed evennusing.non-approved for PC drugs if he thinks it may help. Most doctor uses standard of care (by the book) medication and thus hardly ever get an FDA warning. For example, Standard care for PC (after primary treatment that failed) is ADT and if that fail then prostate bed radiation, then chemo using approved drugs for PC only. Dr Amato and a few others follows research protocol so he may try other cancer drugs to our PC if he thinks it may help for PC remission.

Yep, I know about it. I have been with him since May 2004. An employee took shortcuts and did not cross t's and dot i's. He took responsibility for it and moved on with his research.

So did you get the part about metastatic prostate cancer. I was in that cohort. My results are fantastic. I have written in the past that we stopped Lupron in February 2010. I take no drugs associated with prostate cancer. My tests yesterday continue to be fantastic; PSA is <0.1, and has remained do for over thirteen years; T is 585.2 on 4mg of Androgel twice a week.

Thanks for your info. I researched his practice a bit and he seemed like my kind of MO. I’ll keep him in mind for when I need to find a new MO someday.
