Pain should be nominal and last only a few days. Go back to your surgeon or see a urologist. Sorry you have to say goodbye to sex.

Said good bye to that a long time ago.

Highly over-rated, if one is perfectly honest. Definitely enjoyable but fairly short lived :-)

Hi mjbach,

My husband had Prostatectomy back in 2011. One of the things that bothered him the most was the catheter and the discomfort when it was removed. The pain only lasted a few seconds, but other then that he did ok. It took him a while to fully recover, but he was able to make a trip to Disney a few weeks after ( he didn't walk, he used a wheel chair ) Thank God he didn't have any complications. I try to follow all the instructions from the nurse on how to clean and empty the catheter as needed.

I hope for a smooth recovery. The best to both of you.

Sincerely,

Erika.

My husband never had a catheter for orchiectomy but he did for prostatectomy and was happy to get rid of it.

He is recovering but much slower than expected probably due to age and aspirin. This deal kept him off his feet interrupting his Xtandi walking routine.

I had mine done in September of 2017, and I hobbled around for a weekend moving pretty slow, but a week later, I just had to be careful getting up and down from a sitting position. I even went to work for a week long trade show 10 days later and was a bit slower but it was fine. I do not regret it one bit, I had previously had two shots of Lupron and my PSA wasn't reacting like my MO would have liked during chemo, me thinking maybe the Lupron isn't working on me like it should, my MO didn't disagree, so chop, chop. Regretfully, that didn't fix it either, but I don't have the side effects like the hot flashes anymore.

One thing, I do have a strong urge to shop for women's shoes and hand bags now, and those silk panties, wow, they are so much more comfortable than cotton briefs!

Is that Victoria’s Secret?.... are you kidding ? Does sound comfortable. I did the dudes in 9-16... tuff decision when you’ve been taught your whole life to protect the family jewels. Se la ve, ain’t no going back now. My doc that did the chop chop told his co choppers in prepping me that “ This Guy has made the decision to not have to come see me for shots every 3 months.. I believe they concurred it a good move for me. My boys were adt castrated plus Rt, they were caput! And at times painful. No

Pain, bike seat ? No prob, two less things that we have to worry about. Thanks for the humor!

Yeah he is hobbling but doing much better than last night.

I offered him to try a pair of mine since the nurse said to wear tighties to give extra support. So far he doesn't like that idea but I will be on the look out for any personality changes like wanting to shop or redecorate the house.

Thanks for sharing.

He sounds like he'll be fine in a couple days. I do recall them saying to keep the area well supported the first few days. One thing I do recall after thinking more, and not knowing his closing, but they used super glue to close me up, so no stitches, and there was no dressing after just a few days after surgery, so there was some spot bleeding. The 10 day follow up with the surgeon, takes a look and says your good, no need to return. He told me then there might be spot bleeding for a couple more weeks, so have him be prepared for that.

The doc never mentioned super glue just dissolving stitches. His follow up isn’t for a month.

Forget about the silk panties... Just Look out when he starts remembering every tiny conversation that the both of you ever had.

Good Luck and Good Health.

Hahahaaaa

Hey there, i had my jewels severed and taken about 18 months ago. i chose this road as there was no way that i was going to go on the lupron poison. I found the operation side of things not too bad at all to deal with. It was around 6 months later that hot flushes started to take hold,i struggled with them for a year or so before i finally gave in and let my onco give me some of pharmas shite....cyproterone acetate which is a synthetic female hormone at 50 mgs a dose . The last thing that any red blooded male wants to put into their body...there has been a noticable reduction in the hot flushes so i must not complain. It is the only pharma drug that i have allowed in my body,i use cannabis oil every night and have done so for the last 2 years. I remain with 0.0 psa and am gratefull to god for that.... im 58 and was diagnosed with 4+3=7 and agressive,i had radical prostatectamy and 38 radiation blasts 3 montha after the op. My psa continued to rise hence the decision to lop off the seeds...wouldnt do it any other way.....by the way im so happy to never have to worry about sex ever again. All the very best to you my bro......

I will pass that along as he would like to get rid of the hot flashes. Do you think the cannabis oil helps for insomnia? I don’t know if it’s available Yet in GA.

He is up all night peeing anyway so maybe we need to look into getting the plumbing fixed. I hate to add to the complications, though.

My best wishes and healing wishes for your hubby. So glad he did okay with the surgery. I'm thinking a little marijuana for the next week or two and he won't even care ;) Sure is helpful for Elgie.

Healing hugs,

Jackie

Did it back in July. The first couple of days were the most uncomfortable. Had self dissolving stitches and had to ice the area for a couple of days. The only pain was a stinging sensation at the sutures. Needed to wear a jock strap with gauze in it. Real important to do this. Real glad I did it, don’t miss them at all.

in reply to Gary94

Gary94,,, them who?? I hard pretty much that same experience, very simple.not much pain...I did go thru some post choppin depression. Once the bull is chopped they put him

Out to pasture..stick a fork in him ,he’s done! I was the bull .. and that lasted for several months. My gorgeous wife’s and my 3rd anniversary is today. She still loves me . That’s unconditional. I’m happy.

I just suggested I could Buy him and a jock strap and he sounded open to that. He requested stopping by the docs office yesterday after seeing the dentist. (He broke his implant.)

The nurse changed his antibiotic from Cipro and told him to stay off his feet. If swelling doesn’t subside by Monday they will have to pop him to drain some blood off.

The hospital that did the operation sent me home in a jock strap filled with gauze. The nurse giving the discharge instructions stressed that it was real important to wear a jock strap during recovery. He was right!
