PC metastatic to the liver

I have had metastatic prostate cancer since 2013.

It was discovered on the spine and lymph system. Never had it in the prostate. There is NO Gleason.

I have exhausted the chemo regiments and just found out the PC has gone to my liver. SHIT!

As suspected it is not a good prognosis. We have stopped all treatment as we do research on clinical trials.

Symptoms are starting to show up. PSA on last check was at a 74 and rising.

Have you done carboplatin and etoposide chemotherapy? Also LU-177 might be an option if you have good PSMA expression.

There is a new kind of liver therapy called radioembolization that may be especially effective.

For a similar case, you may be interested in this thread:

You don't mention any details of your diagnosis, such as biomarkers or tumor pathology, but if it is some kind of neuroendocrine prostate cancer, you may be interested in the clinical trials listed here:

Here's an article about a trial with carboplatin and etoposide chemotherapy in metastatic PCa with or without neuroendocrine differentiation, some wth liver mets. Results showed increased OS for patients with liver mets.

Good Monday Morning Mbolduc,

I have been in this battle for almost six years (please see bio for complete treatment history).

In September 2017, via an Axumin PET/CT and subsequent liver MRI, we discovered 20+ lesions in liver. A CT guided biopsy confirmed prostate cancer mets in liver--quite unexpected and put me in a different galaxy! PSA was 10.8.

Immediately began chemo with a Docetaxel/Carboplatin combo. Completed 6 cycles on 1/9/18 with PSA drop to .4. Currently on chemo break with monthly blood tests and every 2 month liver MRI.

This is my week for both liver MRI and full blood work, having been off chemo for 2 months. Praying for good results!

Do not give up as there are multiple ways to treat you. Make sure you have the best Med Onc who specializes in prostate cancer that you can find.

If chemo approach did not work effectively, Google "Selective Internal Radiation--Spheres". Nanoparticles of radiation are injected which make their way to tumors in the liver. My Med Onc has used it with several patients here in Atlanta.

Best wishes. Never Give In.

Mark, Atlanta

vandy69, lifting you up in prayer this week for some really, really good news, friend! ' Enjoy seeing your replies to other guys, as your comments are quite meaningful to all of them, I'm sure. Dropping from 10.8 to .4 is miraculous!!! It's clear that you will "Never Give In."

Mark,

Could you mention the name of the doctor in Atlanta? Thanks. Mary

I have been treated by Dr. Vasily Assikis of the Piedmont Cancer Institute since diagnosis. He is a Med Onc and specializes in prostate cancer, but not exclusively.

Hi everyone.

This is such an interesting thread for us as my husband too has mets to the liver and, although Carbo is working well for him now, we are of course ager to look ahead and see if there are things that could work once Carbo does no longer work. It makes us feel positive to know that there are indeed options out there.

Best wishes to everyone!

Mel and Paul.
