I have stage iv prostate ... 12years going thru zyfigo now I’d like to know if anyone has any idea of what my last bit of life wil be like Honesty would be appreciated I’m on steroids for pain and will only get worse from her

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation.

Since you asked for honesty, my advice is to try to get the most possible out of hospice care. It's a topic that is not discussed often enough here in my opinion.

We all want to fight the cancer with everything we have, but it's important to recognise when that time is over. You are not giving up, you are just shifting your care to something that is best for you. I read an article that on average, most people don't take full advantage of what hospice offers because they start too late. My dad went into hospice only a few days before he passed. He missed out on care that could have made the last part of his life better.

I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but you can get high quality care to make you as comfortable as possible and be with your loved ones, that's the goal. The hospice people can tell you much more than most of us here because they have most experience.

Not to imply you have reached that point with your treatment. If there are still treatment options there for you, by all means keep fighting.

with xofigo, you should get up to about 15 months and they just approved it so that you can do it again. apalutamide came out feb. 15th. ask your doc about it...it's supposed to replace ezalutamide as it fails.

my husbnd was awaiting his xofigo appt. when a PA at the VA caused him to get c. diff. she said he looked like he had sepsis and began treatment without waiting for blood test results..then had to stop treatment causing the c. diff. that complication exacerbated his condition, as the xofigo was cancelled because the c. diff would not resolve. i am convinced he would still be here had it not been for that medical malpractice.

the end was BAD...70 days of not being able to do much more than watch TV, bedridden, half of the time at home...but most of it was from the c.diff. in the end, he was given morphine in the hospital and preferred staying there. he never had pain and then quietly passed one morning 70 days later, after stopping all treatment.

just be careful some overbearing, uneducated ass doesn't do something like that to you...and you'll be fine as long as you can tolerate treatment. good luck with the zofigo....and ask about the apalutamide.

Are you throwing the towel in the ring too soon? You have not told us your gleason score, your PSA, your prior treatments, your doctor's comments. Have you gotten a second opinion from a prostate specialist MO at a National Cancer Institute?

Did been getting second diagnosis all along the way ... not throwing in the towel but knowing it’s coming would like to know what to expect...Gleason was 7 ... stage 5 ... currently psa doubling every 4 weeks is now 220

When it comes to what to expect, I wouldn't go by the article posted above. It's worst-case scenario that looks like it's written mainly to promote a doctor's business.

no, gregg...that article is spot on. my husband went through it all...but with pain meds and morphine, he did not suffer. however, his PSA by then was in the mid-2000s. in the last two months they stopped measuring it. the xofigo should drop your PSA. it was explained to us that it's the bone mets spitting out the most PSA. as they are brought under control, your PSA should drop....and don't forget to ask about apalutamide. you look much healthier than he did when his spiral downward began.

No morphine drip for me...I plan on wrestling Gustave who has already killed 300 men...might as well go out in style...I am training for the match in about 6 months

I have to comment here as I don't agree with mainstream.... I have stage 3 prostate cancer since 2010 and it's come back now, March 2018, after Radiotherapy in 2010. They want to do 3 hr robotic surgery 'Salvage Radical Prostatectomy' which I'm adamant I'm not doing and have been looking at some alternative natural ways to reduce my PSA level which seems to be working... I am not sure if this is the information that you are looking for. When cancer causes you to die usually it is because it goes to the lungs or the liver. I have experience with it metastasizing to the lungs.

This is what happened when my Dad died. He died at home and his pain was managed through morpheme. We had a good Christmas with him that year and he died on January 8th. He only spent 2 days in bed. He had Prostate Cancer but ended up with a sarcoma from the radiation that metastasized to his lungs. We were lucky that we were able to get him some oxygen and IV fluids to keep him comfortable the last couple of days. We did not use hospice as they will not allow those things. I am glad we got them as I could enjoy him up until his last moments. Dad was healthy enough on Thanksgiving to go out to dinner with us.

Death is always sad but it was not a horrible death. He was 89. I miss him a lot!

Hi Fred I know what you are going through as I had prostate cancer diagnosis in 2011.No conventional tx as I went the integrative/alternative route.Saw integrative oncologist twice & tx in Germany last summer.I am now using cannabis orally (Hi CBD)and by suppositories (Hi THC).My Urologist believes I have metastisized cancer although his only reason for thinking this way is the 7+ years with no conventional tx...surgery or radiation.Dennis Hill "cured"his stage 3 prostate cancer in a few months.He is several years cancer free now taking only a low maintenance dose orally.Don't give up for sure but more importantly look for the alternative tx's to cure you(I have tremendous respect for hispice but you don't need people telling you how to die.Stage 4 Cancers have been cured many times.Tanya Harter Pierce's has been a great resource for me.I have used several of the alternative tx 's she has researched.My Cannabis is helping my symptoms in a months time.Dennis Hill's story will give you a new hope for long term survival.Love to talk.Keep in touch.
