SSDI Approval Timeline

[Beauxman]

Day -1: Last day of work.

Day 0: Completed SSDI online application.

Day 4: SSA sent letter including forms to sign and requesting Adult Disability Report.

Day 6: Received above letter.

Day 10: Delivered to local SSA office

a. Requested forms and report.

b. Printouts proving Compassionate Allowances Condition.

1. Date of starting ADT (Aug 28, 2015)

2. PSA near date of starting ADT (80 on Sept 1, 2017)

3. Current PSA (263 on Sept 20, 2017)

c. Other medical records in electronic format on a CD.

Day 27: Initial decision made. Claim approved.

Day 30: Message sent to me with decision in SSA Message Center.

Day 31: Without receiving any email or phone call, I logged into Message Center and saw the decision.

That’s great you got approved, takes 6 months to get a check, and 2 years till you get Medicare.

Being from Australia, this means nothing to me, but I'm glad you're still around Beauxman. Did you end up going through with the bone marrow transplant?

I had to have surgery for Epidural Compression from a Metastatic Tumor (ECMT) and now need radiation to prevent that from quickly recurring. Hopefully, I can start the transplant in December.

May I explain, if you don't mind. Our paychecks are hit with a SSI tax.(Social Security Insurance) This is normally used for monthly payments when we reach retirement, something like 89. But, if you get sick, like me and Beauxman, at an early age, and can no longer work, you can receive these payments through the Social Security Disability Program. But, it's a pittance, you couldn't live on it if you were on your own. And, if your like me, who spent time in the service, and a lot of under the table work, it's even less.

Im about to apply. Are you recurrent or first time? I read that even stage 4 SSDI goes faster on recurrence.

That was way cool! I got a lawyer at the time. Then my wife read about the fast track on the Compassionate Care Program. We, my wife and I, did the work for the lawyer, obtaining records, and such. The lawyer had the gall to call me, while he was on the phone with the judge, to explain what a recurrence was. We did the work, and he got the check. How about that.

I would say anyone with one of these conditions should apply without a lawyer. If the initial application is denied, get a lawyer for the appeal.

I would like to add that before anyone pays for a lawyer... to call and write your Congressman and keep in touch every few days or weekly. It's so much better than paying a lawyer. They work for you.

SS at age 66, medicare at age 66, prostate cancer diagnosis at age 66. I guess I should count myself lucky? Of course, my HIFU treatment option was out of pocket since Medicare still doesn't cover it. I live in a medical marijuana state so that gives me options if things get bad ... or I just feel like 'leaving this world for a while' as Tom P might have said.
