Advice From The Mayo Clinic

An oncologist at The Mayo Clinic told a patient with GS7 PCa ...If you live long enough you will die from prostate cancer. Patrick just posted that men who eat peanuts had a 34% lower over all mortality rate than non peanut eaters. Sounds good to me..I am going to starting eating peanuts everyday so I can eventually die from prostate cancer.

It is hard to argue with the oncologist's statement, especially if you put it another way: If you don't die from anything else, the you will die from prostate cancer.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend who is a funeral director. He was bemoaning the fact that his business had slowed and when I asked why he said that the death rate was down. To which I responded that to my knowledge it was still 100%. :)

Do chocolate covered peanuts count? If so, I will live to be 150!

I certainly hope it helps. I eat almonds and walnuts in my cold cereal and oatmeal except when I have an omelet that includes broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes and black olives. I do eat whole almonds and peanuts probably 4 times each week.

All U men are so clever with your comments. Like the oncologist said, if one thing doesn't get U the other one will. No doubt about that! These seem a bit like fear tactics to me somewhat. I was glad to see all you fellow dudes, prescribe your favorite remedy, i.e. the peanuts. I like with a beer often. Whatever the outcomes, we all got to keep rollin' on; roll with the punches and fight the good fight of living life in a quality way. "Carry on my wayward sons; there will be peace when U R done; lay your weary head to rest; don't U cry no more." Kansas Rock group, along with remember men, that we are all just dust in the wind. Guy that wrote that song went to a Catholic high school and was just reflecting his learning experience "dust in the wind"

Yes Russell, especially all of the religious dogma and doctrine that was jammed down my throat. Besides the religious studies from my Catholic upbringing, I do feel I got an adequate academic ed. for prep for University studies. I have since abandoned the Catholic faith for a more general, existential, may the force be with U, attitude with my own spirituality. Yikes!

I said it once, and I'll say it again, "I think my catholic school upbringing retarded me some". All 12 years. And, some, is putting it lightly.

In hindsight, I was one of the lucky ones. I was an altar boy not knowing that some of these "priests" may actually be predators. Well after high school, I found that a few were "that" way. Shit, the guy that married us was found out to be a pedophile. So I have had it with the "religion" thing. There's just too many gods out there for my liking.

Hello Joe: I was too, one of the lucky ones for my family and I were around the local parish priests a fair amount. I feel lucky to have dodged that bullet. I too was an altar boy and spent many times alone with those guys. Right, organized religion has no place in my life either. Religion is based upon the Bible, which dates it, but also on the uncertainty and fear that emanates from people's souls. Religion is there with its guarantees of "just do this and that and we will guarantee you Heaven." Don't get me started Joe. Tx for the reply and shout from another "recovering catholic boy." Docrok

So, I wondered why the bible has certain texts in it, while there must be many many more writings from these times. I found out that there are more books and scriptures left out of the bible than are in it. It seems that when book binding became a "thing", there was a decision that had to be made. I find it very frightening. People adore a book of fiction, IMHO.

Wishful and punitive thinking with these Bible bangers it can seem. So Righteous and judgmental at times, and can yet these Christian, religious folks, can have a big, and controlling, heart too. Enough of this before I get into some real trouble here. Doc

I thought it was 'tree nuts' that provided a survival benefit; almonds, pecans, etc. I eat the Costco mixed nuts and add peanuts too. It's all good.

don't know, do you know any urologist who's done a DRE on an elephant?

In fact I do... the elephant asked the urologist if he wouldn't mind using two fingers when performing his DRE... the oncologist asked why? and the elephant replied that he wanted a second opinion.....

Enjoy the peanuts for many, many years

Joel

This came up in another thread, and I think Patrick referenced Snuffy Myers, and his disdain for peanuts and walnuts. Peanuts are easy to understand, because they're not nuts, but are good for you. On the other hand, walnuts are horrible for you. Sorry. But, walnuts are the only nut whose fat is a polyunsaturated fat. All other nuts have monounsaturated fat.

He mentioned alpha lenolic acid, which is supposed to be bad for us guys. And another, not mentioned, lenolic acid, make up @ 72% of the fat in walnuts. Now, I don't know yet how the ALA specifically promotes cancer growth, but I do know what polyunsaturated fats do.

Sorry Nalakrats, and all walnut lovers.

Peace all, Joe
