If you are getting ready to begin chemotherapy you might want to read this blog post that I have written on the Advanced Prostate Cancer Blog. (advancedprostatecancer.net).

According to researchers at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, men with a mutation in their VAC14 gene are more susceptible to Docetaxel chemotherapy induced neuropathy and nerve pain and might want to avoid this treatment.

I don't think I have ever had any gene mapping done but I already have peripheral neuropathy from a previous drug. Does this mean I should avoid chemotheraphy?

No, not necessarily. The prior neuropathy might have nothing to do with the BRAC gene, do not assume there is a relationship.
