Update: The post below is older but I wanted to revisit. I'm feeling better and somewhat on track. Zoloft 150 and Welbutrin 150 split, 75 early morning and 75 early afternoon. Just had to up from 100 Zoloft to 200 because Im feeling depressed but the Wellbutrin and Zoloft combo helps me stay more organized. I'm happy with new doc, she is compassionate but not a pushover and thorough, she explains her decisions to me and we both come to an agreement. ***Diagnosed a few years ago, on meds for a year and finally felt great then the docs required I see a Psychiatrist for the Adderal, 1 month until intake and another month for Psychiatrist appointment. Psychiatrist said she wouldn't prescribe Adderall and shamed my prior docs. Treated me like an addict, I've had one pain pill my whole life and never done drugs ever. The Adderall had finally gotten me on track and I was afraid to change the regimine so I just stopped altogether after that appointment. Been off track ever since. Due to some events Ive been pretty depressed. Finally went to new doc, love her. On low doses of Sertraline and just added low dose of Wellbutrin 5 days ago. Felt oddly sad with no trigger for about 2 hours and then fine all evening but I just realized I don't think I've felt anything all evening. I don't feel happy or sad but I do think this site will be a great resource. I'm looking forward to having an outlet and a place I can find some reassurance and some uplifting converasatios.

I agree with Lovinit. That "doctor" sounds like a judgemental quack who has no clue about what it's like to live with ADHD. Best of luck to you.
Sorry Lovinit, you're right. I wish I had done that sooner but my care network is small the closest was over an hour away. I just notice I didn't add that I recently found a new doc. After the run around I got and that mean doctor, I was scarred. Maybe a little afraid to see another doctor but the depression pushed me to find a new one, I had nothing to lose at that point since I hadnt been on a regimen for the last year.
Do you like your new doctor? I’m very happy with my doctor, I’m so thankful to see someone who is trained and educated about ADHD and as I continue to follow up with him regularly I like that because I can tell him and it helps me see my progress. Also New issues or concerns or wants questions come up and I will make the best use of the hour visit I have with him. I found that when I didn’t have any questions prepared I noticed our hour long sessions lasted 15min. He’s the best thing I got so I like asking him stuff
That's awesome. Only one visit so far but so far she is good. I am keeping track of questions or ideas that come up along the way to ask her. I also see a counselor because home life is hard right now. I like self help books and articles and research. I find that if I email the counselor a list of the stuff that I read, they get a better understanding of the approach and angle I'm getting at because I know how hard it is for people to follow along with me in conversation. I'm glad you have a doc you like! I read some of your posts, did you ever find someone to work together with on achieving your goals?
Glad you found someone better! I'm curious why the new doctor didn't prescribe Adderall, since it helped you? Unmedicated ADHD can be a cause of depression and both of the medications you were prescribed are anti-depressants. I have used both of them separately, before trying ADHD medication and they helped a little with the depression, but not with the ADHD for me.
I believe the plan is to add in the Adderall once we've tried out the wellbutrin and found I tolerate it and get the correct dosage first and my fingers are crossed hoping she will add it in. The alternative she thought of trying was the Vyvanse I think.
I see. You may not need the Wellbutrin or Sertaline once you get back on Adderrall, but you can always drop it later. Good luck!!!
Hi sorry to hear your struggles ! It’s different in the Uk . You have to be diagnosed by an adhd specialist to get adhd stimulants but we get free prescriptions in Scotland where I live . If you’re diagnosed with adhd you’re not on adhd meds you’re on antidepressants which have never worked for me? We can’t get Adderall here only concerta and vyvanse but if you’ve been diagnosed adhd I don’t see why you can’t be prescribed stimulants that work for adhd if Adderall worked in the past by your new doctor? I don’t know how it works where you’re from but I have to see an adhd specialist for stimulant meds

Oooooohhh. Scotland! I'm in the U.S. The coverage I have pays for most of my scripts but new policies at the facility that is closest to me are to deter stimulant abuse and I get that, the problem is they are overbooked really and that has made it so hard to get it prescribed.
Sorry to hear that, makes me feel lucky to get all my meds prescribed quite easily and for free and feel for you guys in America!! I’ll never complain about our NHS again !!
How come you can’t get adderall?
I’m not sure if you’re asking me how come I can’t get Adderall? If so it’s not licensed in the Uk neither Is dexadrine .. just Ritalin, concerta and vyvanse are the stimulants licensed in the UK unfortunately!!
What do you mean by that? Do you have to set an appointment every month and pay for a doctor visit to get just one script?
I have struggled a little with not always taking my medication as prescribed so I asked my doctor to write me two week scripts. That works better for me, I’m less likely to take extra for some reason. And my doctor writes me enough scripts with fill dates to get me though until our next appointment visit
Oh no. I used to pay for a doctor visit every month to get the script when I had no insurance. Since I just saw thos new doc for the first time, she only wanted to add one thing at a time to make sure that if the meds werent right we knew which one it isamd what symptoms were caused by which med. Ive never been on Welbutrin till now so we tries that first. I'm having some depression due to some home stuff and I think she felt that was the urgent issue. She said there may be a jump in my energy with the Wellbutrin to but I havent felt it. The plan is to add Adderall soon or switch to Vyvanse.
That’s good you have to see a specialist, I can only imagine that they would be the best to go see if you are struggling with ADHD. I want a doctor that knows his shit.
Adderall is an older generation version of Vyvanse. Vyvanse doesn't hit as hard and you take it once a day, but they are pretty much the same med according to my pharmacist.
Why would they take you off adderall if it was working so well for you? Dr’s are the worst. If you don’t mind me asking, what city do you live in? Maybe someone on here can refer you to a good psychiatrist if they see this post.
Thank you! I actually like the new doc I just started seeing and its actually the health care plan that I have that only offers a few docs in the area. They offer more docs but they are all an hour away.
Wow, I had a very similar thing happen. I used Adderal very sparsely; a few days a week, when there were too many different clients/tasks/topics in my work day to stay focused. Super low dose and it worked great. New doc insisted that I switch to Strattera because it posed no thereat of addiction. Tried it today and I felt like I was flung into space at a million miles an hour, had vision problems, shakiness, weakness. When the ride finally stopped, I was exhausted. Doc said I should try it a few more days to see if the side effects diminished. I said NO WAY !!
And yup, Wellbutrin left me feeling very dull indeed.

Hi did you have that instant reaction to strattera? My adhd specialist has put me on that as well as 70 mg of vyvanse as I’m only getting 5 hours max effect from vyvanse no where near the 14 hours some people get . I haven’t had any effects from the strattera yet but have only started on 40 mg 3 days ago and with it basically being an antidepressant I was expecting it to take longer to work but have had no experience of this drug. I seem to need high doses of stimulant meds but my adhd specialist doesn’t feel comfortable prescribing more than the recommended max dose of 70 mg of vyvanse so hoping the strattera would possibly make the vyvanse work longer ? Any thoughts or experiences of trying this combination welcome

Unless the doctor knows ADHD and is prescribing something specific to your needs, I would have been very upset as well. Don't get the God complex with some of the medical profession. In Canada, I was referred to an ADHD psychiatrist, those are his clients only. I was amazed it was only a six week wait to see him, though it took six months after stress testing and mix ups at Dr office for reports. Frustrating, a system that is supposed to help becomes like a science experiment with some patients. With more adult patients coming forward I am wondering if they think we are hustling pills to kids given non ADHD types are using them to enhance their studies. Prescriptions here are hand written, and you have to sign off on the pills, you receive one month supply only.Controlled substances are a very touchy subject for doctors. Glad you have found someone that works for you. Wellbutrin is a decent anti depressive, I was on it for a few years, but it did nothing to lessen bipolar symptoms. Then I was given LD seroquil for sleep. Now its Vyvanse and nothing else. It's a battle, keep going, you will find a level. Advocate for yourself, and don't be afraid to speak up.
Thank you! I actually began a collection of my records and a letter on what had happened with that doctor but its hard to accomplish things when you're off the meds and depressed. I spoke to other professionals even to help me go about contacting the head of the program. Its amazing how administration and doctors can so easily not take things seriously because its coming from a Behavioral Health patient. Even the professionals I met with ciached me through how to best approach the situation so that the matter would be taken seriously and handled. They all would have prescribed me meds but the follow up doctors visit and extended release Adderall was too expensive and so I waited but I think Im back on track now to some decent help.
I am very forutunate My Dr will prescib what every I need or will try what ever is needed.I have had ADHD all my life. After I found out I had a couple of strokes I quite the adderall.But the Dr said it was safe enough to ciontiue.I have tried all the adhd drugs and old fashin straight adderall is what works the best. I have a GREAt GP with a Great Phys. DR but I have one Dr I am dealing with now has no clue what to do with me.lolol Next Doctor!
