Could increasing my dosage cause pounding in the arteries in my head?

Hi, everyone. About a week ago the doc increased my dosage of Vyvanse, because I had mentioned to said doctor, that my boyfriend could not notice a difference in me on my usual dose, and for the fact that when i get home from work after the meds are mostly out of my system, I can't focus. So, one day I worked out in the yard in the heat doing strenuous sawing of the tree growing under the porch, while on the higher dose. The next morning I took my meds, cooked something, ate it, did the laundry, etc. (Basically, in the mornings when I take my medicine I get many things done.) Further into that day I did not eat lunch. I chainsmoked many cigarettes, and felt melancholy. I could not think of a reason why I felt this way. So, I got my bf to take me to my mothers', to visit her. Our car has no air condition. It was very hot in the car. At my mother's , while visiting her she mentioned to me something that worried me. Then, (still at mom's), I got up from my chair, and went to go to the restroom. I noticed immediately something did not feel right. I almost passed out. I felt like it may have been a stroke happening , so I asked my mom to take me to my primary care doctor. The ekg was normal, as was my blood pressure. I was wondering if any one else has had a similar experience? Sorry the post is so long.

I have a follow up with my psychiatrist in two days, and am going to mention it to him.

I am on a different medication than you are (concerta). However, I can relate to this. My doctor increased my dosage and after a short while on the increased dose I didn't feel right. Headaches were pretty bad and I would feel dizzy at times. It was concerning because I never really had those issues in the past. I finally adjusted my meds and feel a bit better. I am still trying to figure out the right dose though. Sometimes I think I am having a hot flash (which I am too young for!) because I get hot randomly and have no idea what the cause is. I plan to discuss this more with my doctor as well because I don't think these side effects should be happening. I think you should mention that to your doctor as well and see what they say. Good luck!

Thank you so much for responding. I went to my doctor today, with a whole list of side effects, but only remembered to tell him about 3 of them. I also keep forgetting to tell him that my family has heart problems.I did tell him I was done with stimulant medication. I hope I haven't made a mistake in coming off of them.

I COMPLETELY understand about forgetting to mention ALL the things you want to mention and then remembering them AFTER you leave. Ugh, so frustrating and I feel your pain with that. I do it all the time! Drives me crazy. Did your doctor give you any insight as to what to do or change?

My doctor could not understand why I am so quick to give up on treatment. But, it's like I said; heart problems are on both sides of my family.

For anyone taking stimulant medication, for your own safety, I highly recommend you take the supplement CoQ10. It helps protect the heart and helps greatly with keeping heart rate and blood pressure stable. I am in grad school to become an MFT Psychologist, and am a strong advocate for using supplements to help combat stimulant medication negative side effects, and also to help the medication work to it's full potential, and also to help with many other ADHD symptoms. I'm quite dissapointed to hear from people I have worked with that at least COQ10 is not suggested by Psychiatrists to their patients who take stimulant medication. This is something I really hope to help change in some way when I enter the field. I take 100mg COQ10 twice a day along with my 10mg stimulant medication 2x a day, and the company I buy it from is Jarrow Formulas. In case anyone is interested, I have a google doc I made to share with those interested in supplements, a link on my profile bio of what I take, how it's helpful for those with ADHD, why I take it, what stores sell it, and the cost (usually Amazon sells stuff a lot cheaper). Hope this helps
