Mydayis effective for Adderall tolerant individuals?

Hi everyone, my name is jenni, I’m a 31yo single mom with an amazing 4yo son. Recently we were living in a domestic violence shelter for over 4 months until I was fortunate enough to find an amazing program through Vantage Health Systems, a mental health facility, called Opening Doors. The program provides HUD backed housing vouchers for those who are homeless or facing homelessness who struggle with their mental health & was accepted! My son and I are now living in a great apt 100% on our own for the first time & it is absolutely wonderful to have my son out of the previous toxic environments we had to live in prior.

However, I think any parent with ADHD, especially single ones with young children, knows how disheartening & difficult it is. I want nothing more than to do everything I possibly can to fulfill my sons needs in every way, now that we have a peaceful environment, but I feel like I’m failing him and drowning in overwhelmedness!

I’ve been on Adderall 20mg IR for 8+ years now, from 2 a day to 3 a day and then the past 2 months up to 120/day which was shockingly making a huge difference for me. Suddenly when I went back to my psych this month she refused to prescribe me the 120 I was really flourishing on and insisted I had to go back down to the 90/month. After being on this med for the better part of 10 years now, my tolerance to it is unbelievable, I can literally take 40mg and fall asleep an hour later...some days it seems to still work others not at all. I’ve tried Adderall XR which was like taking a placebo, it did absolutely nothing for my ADHD and I’ve tried Vyvanse, which was better than nothing but still so far Adderall IR is still helps more than the others.

I was reading up on the new medication made by Shire, the original makers of the namebrand Adderall, called Mydayis. It sounds really promising but I searched for user reviews online endlessly and most ppl loved it but still quite a few said it did nothing, and I fear that those ppl are likely medication tolerant such as myself and that I too will see no results from it.

Has anyone yet tried Mydayis? Or would recommend something else they believe might work well for me? I’m desperate, I’ve only had this apt for 2 months and everything I should be doing is falling apart alresdy! :(

I can say I totally understand what you are saying. I have be taking Adderall for 13 years. I get what you mean about taking it and falling asleep!!! I have told Dr.s that and they actually told me I was must be confused. If I need to relax and fall asleep I do take some. I recently switched to Vyvanve as well. I have a new Dr. and she took my Adderall Rx down by 280mg a month. I am taking 60mg of Vyvance which is ok but it does not last 12 hrs like Dr.s tell me it will. I am trying these natural products that actually are doing ok. Not perfect but it's working. It's called Nootropics. What about Vyvance and a maybe 1 or 2 Ritalin or Dexaphetamine. Something short acting for the end of the day?

I’ve tried asking my dr to prescribe me 1 adderoll Extended release and 1 less instant release a day...bc I think the instant releases would be more effective with the ER in my system all day and she tried to tell me she can’t which I know isn’t true

dude !!! of course the “COMBO BREAKER” is what i’ve always considered it... 1 30 IR & 1 30 ER taken together is prolly the only thing that i can still say keeps me steady for good few hours even after all theee years however it’s the tolerance now that destroys just being able to do that once a day , if i could do it 3 times a day i be golden but have only been able to get enough to do it twice a day and well after last 5-6 years doing that with the upgrade of another IR it’s bout 2 years overdue to get another XR to solve the problem but it’s a super red flag from whaf i’m told as i’m already red flagged and sometimes even told and given odd looks when refilling all these years later...

the answer to the combo mix is without a doubt best thing ever if your able to be on both of those at whatever doses... and if ya haven’t your missing out on the potential it is given...

Try up to 6 ER Adderall tabs daily taken every three hours, stick to that same schedule daily for a week, you may find great results

You are such a courageous determined mother! Most folks would have a great deal of difficulty moving forward after what you have been through. What you have dealt with so far and conquered is amazing! Is there any free counselling available near you? Until you find the meds you need to help, perhaps attending counselling every week or having a line you can call when you feel isolated or confused and alone, might help? Also, perhaps you can ask a counsellor how you can get help to manage your current circumstances, until you feel stronger. I wish you much peace and happiness and health.

Instant release, the regular tablets

Lovinit profile image
Lovinit in reply to SlothCircus

Okay, maybe that’s what I have. I take 30mg both tablets in the morning so instead of 30mg twice a day it 60mg once a day. If I took more than that I wouldn’t get a good nights rest. I have trouble binge eating at the end of the day after my medication wears off. Any advice?

I know this is going to sound crazy but towards the end of the day if things start to wear off I use coffee. I've been known to drink for 5 cups of coffee in the evening and then go to sleep. When I was a child I was on Ritalin and when they took me off in junior high they actually told my mother if I had trouble sleeping to have me drink a cup of coffee before bed. Sounds funny but it worked. So if I start to lag after my last meds instead of upping my meds and taking another dose late in the evening I just start drinking coffee. I don't drink caffeinated coffee along with my meds cuz it's kind of just over simulation and I worry about heart rate and blood pressure. But absolutely when I have taken my two doses for the day I usually take one when I wake up and one in the early afternoon then about 6 I tend to hit the wall. Then the coffee pot starts turning it gets me to bedtime and I do pretty good I don't know give it a try

Thank you for sharing that. I just made a daily alarm to remind me to take my 2nd dose at 4pm. I plan to get home from work about 12am and hopefully in bed by 1am. I need to get into a routine with my medication. I have at times taken an extra dose and I’ve constantly begun running out of my medication 4 days before I can fill it again and that’s not helping me

Adderall IR is an instant version of mixed amphetamine salts vs adderall xr is an extended release formulation. My recommendation is that do not touch the IR adderall formulation.

also considered the amphetmine salt generics

Have you tried taking a break from Adderall? If it takes 120 mg to work for you; you may need a break for a few months to make a normal dosage effective again. I take a break for a month or two every year. The first few days are rough even when tapering off but my body adjusts with the right vitamin supplements and watching my diet very carefully. Best of luck to you.

I have tried this several times and it gave me *maybe* a week of increased effectiveness. It was totally not worth the month of lost productivity. I don't even have the ability to do a drug holiday anymore due to school.

Hello Doballe! I’m non-ADHD but my husband (diagnosed ~ 3-4 yrs ago, now 58 yo) and 14 yo daughter are both ADHD. Both are on meds, she responds well but it’s been difficult with him. He was first treated with generic Adderall which worked great but insurance decided they would only pay for name brand - was less effective! Ritalin did nothing so switched back to Adderall. Blood pressure issues arose and after complete cardiac work up was benign they decided it best to stay away from stimulants. Now on Vyvance which isn’t great but better than nothing (has less effect on bp than A and R). I think if he’d accept and embrace the issue that would be a significant help. I’d like your thoughts or anyone else’s reading this, on ‘accepting’ the diagnosis but mostly I’m interested in what vitamin supplements you take.

The diagnosis is difficult to swallow; however for me; it explained a lot of things that were a reoccurring theme throughout my life.

Has your husband had a complete blood work to find out his nutrient levels? I was very low on key nutrients that effect brain and mood/ health. I regularly take iron, Focus Factor and a 50 plus women’s multi. Limiting sweets, carbs and caffeine helps me, too.

Making short lists, doing the things I hate to do first, limiting use of electronic devices, phone, computer and internet time make a huge difference for me with procrastination and staying on track. I’ve also switched to a career where I generally work alone and I’m 100% responsible for the getting it all done every day.

Has he tried MyDayis? There is a mfg. offer that allows him to get the RX for only 15.00 a month. For me, it’s a smooth consistent treatment without the highs and lows of IR Adderall that lasts for length of my long days. I hope this helps! Please tell him it’s lije any answer health problem; it’s not a character flaw!

a break , you will need a detox / rehab... but then again who knows you may not be “addicted” or have an “addictive” personality however most people with ADHD hands down have addictive personalities therefore easily are addicted later on ... if it’s past 5 years pft ya yohr gonna need like an inpatient rehab / detox... unless you do believe god makes miracles go away on a daily basis and if he does it’s not for addictions IMO.

I have taken Adderall for 5 years. I asked my Doctor about mydayis and have been taking for 2 weeks now. I hate it!! Gastrointestinal problems, sluggish and irritable.

I am not having the best results with Mydias. I was on vyvanse 70mg. The Mydais, first day I took it I was amazed at how much I've gotten done. Now it's messing with my sleep and I feel I am starting to become addicted to cigarettes again. It seems to work best the first hour while the IR is taking place. It's just a bit too hardcore for me. The side effects at least. And it's been hard trying to eat.

teky profile image
teky in reply to Malaysianmango

well that’s because it has a stronger stimulant then the other Amphetamine Salt IR & ER’s, if ya don’t like the stimulant feeling or it’s causing ya what your saying here, your better off taking Vyvanse which is made for that exact reason. it uses a similar chemical and somehow doesn’t use the speed like chemical with the other chemical dex something.... ya really should try Vyvanse without a doubt or “Focalin” well your reply def makes me know that it’s says what it supposedly is .... stronger stimulant

If you are taking generic adderall IR manufacturered by TEVA it's most likely not an issue with tolerance but a problem with the quality of your meds. Research this online and you'll find forum after forum of complaints regarding the ineffectiveness and sugar pills that TEVA has been distributing for a while now. The quality of their generic adderall has declined to the point people have been filing complaints with the FDA. Please research it and see if it is similar to your situation. As patients it's time we stop accepting this subpar medication that is not regulated or tested my the FDA and shipped overseas to US consumers.

it could be made by “SHIVA” for all it matters if it’s an amphetamine salt it’s obviously speed so i don’t care what company creates and produces it, if it’s Adderall it’s Adderall.... what are you talking about not being an addictive drug... figure u be wise with your AA/NA username

I was put on Adderall in 96. I take Mydayis because it's made by Shire which makesh better formu a muc it better than the formulation. I take 2 50mg a day. My insurance will only pay for 1 50mg a day. I pay almost 338.00 for the other 50mg. I do that because that is how much more effective it is than the generics. It lasts about 10 hours or som, longer than XR.

Shire has a program for helping you afford Mydayis. There's an application on their website that you download and parts you and your doctor fill out, then fax to them.

Check it out, and good luck!

Hello, I am sorry I saw this so late. Like another user mentioned, you definitely are a brave woman! I have combined ADD/ADHD and have been struggling with trying to find the right dosage. My doctor of 2+ years is wonderful and patient with me. Like you I was on Adderall for 12 years and switched to Vyvanse last year. She initially gave me 70mg and then increased it to 100mg which was great initially. I too have high tolerance to Adderall and Vyvanse like you. Vyvanse works great for me but since I built tolerance, my Dr switched me to Mydayis 50 mg, since I was already on 100 mg Vyvanse, she didn't titrate coz it has proven excruciating for me.

I have been taking Mydayis for 5 days now. It took longer than Adderall but it works well for few hours. But, I start losing focus after 4 hours. So she has allowed me to take an extra Vyvanse 30 mg on days I work. That too, wears off after 3 hours but I am really scared to ask my Dr for more since she has already threaten me that I might need to get another professional advice. And I really don't want to lose her. I have no problem on days I work but nervous thinking of spending my weekends on the lower dose and sleeping almost three fourth of the day. Will keep you posted. Great job being a single mom and rasing your kid by yourself while facing numerous personal challenges.

Bye

Damn , glad i found this post, literally was going to make a very similar question without the difficulty of having to be a parent, hang in there, just glad to know there are others with exact issues as your describing , don’t know how you can downgrade tho... i’m @ 150 mg a day and tolerance is dumb but is denied anything more even after 15 years on it.... you would think the history and science would make sense to agree of any increase even 5MG , so yea i am looking for exact same response, hopefully this gets bumped or something to be seen again. I take 2 30 MG XR and 3 30 MG IR , was trying to find out if this alternative could replace my prior XR’s and in a way wouldn’t be requesting an increase just a alternative experiment if anything. well hope ya found your answers , as i am now searching for mine.

Zenzedi is far better than all the Adderall Generics Or Mydayis. Name brand Dextroamphetamine is the best med available it's Vyvanse but instant release and much more effective. I am prescribed to Mydayis as well , but the Zenzedi blows it away.
