Starting Qelbree

I am struggling to get my son the right medications. He is currently on Abilify and then was put on Ritalin with the Abilify which made him much more violent and agitated so I stopped giving it to him. Now the doctor is starting him on Qelbree. Has anyone had experience with this? I’m so frustrated with all this. I don’t like his psychiatrist much, I don’t feel she listens to me and what I feel he needs, but I can’t change until June as that was the soonest I could get in elsewhere. Thanks!

My 18 year old recently started taking this as well. He has taken everything over the years and the most success he ever had was with Straterra. He decided to try college without any support or medications to see how he would do and 1st semester was a disaster. He started over thanksgiving break and according to him really helped him get through all of his finals and back work. He was only in a 100mg and is now increasing to 200mg. He seems like himself from what Incan observe (unfortunately he tested positive for Covid after getting home it is pretty much asymptomatic). I am encouraged by the result. I have never tried ability with any of my kids (all of whom have adhd). I have been on the brink of doing so but then have been scared off by reviews. Good luck!

He was put on Abilify when we lived back in CA for ASD. It works well for him as best as it can I think. We just increased it. I let it lapse at one point and he became extremely violent again (his meltdowns are very violent and at times appear to have psychosis). I am glad to hear the Qelbree works for your son!

Our 8-year-old son has been on Qelbree for almost a year. It does seem to help him, although he is now also on Buspirone for anxiety. We had tried everything before this, and I can say this has worked best for him. Ritalin was horrible. He was an emotional wreck. We had never upped him to the recommended 200mg dose of Qelbree, but are going to try that next week while he is still on break. The manufacturer is really great to deal with as well. They have reached out to me to see how our son is doing on it, and I have had to call them in the past as well. The only lingering side effect we notice is loss of appetite. It has not affected his personality at all. I wish you the best of luck.
