Welcome. You will get a lot of information and support from this group. If you want to shoot out some specific questions, I’m sure people will try to help you trouble shoot that or you can look up previous posts.

Talk to your pediatrician about treatment options. Talk to your school about education supports. Seek a licensed counselor for behaviors.

Also, a book I found helpful at home for behaviors was 123 Magic by Thomas Phelan

You’ve got this.

Hi, Our daughter is now 18. She was diagnosed when she was in second grade. It has been hard but also joyful. I highly recommend the ADDiTude magazine (online and free). It has a lot of really great articles that will help. I also recommend sending her to summer camp for ADHD. We didn't know about this until our daughter was too old to attend. It will really help her. And medication really works. Now that she is older we hired her an ADHD coach. This takes the stress off our shoulders. Good luck!

Agree with above post. ADDitude magazine/website has great articles and info. An IEP or 504 plan for school

Medication

Parent training - ADHD dude Ryan Wexelblatt is great. Check out his site or you tube videos. This has been a huge part of our success.

American Academy of pediatrics recommends school support, medication management and parent training to help kids with adhd.

Without all 3 of these in place our almost 7 year old would NOT be where he is now. It can take time and patience to find the right med. Don't give up, tune out those who want to judge, trust your gut and advocate for your kiddo.

Welcome! We are always here if you have questions. You can look back at all of the previous posts and learn a lot.

We are all on this journey together. There are ups and downs.. Sharing with others when I am struggling really helps me.

12 principles for raising a child with ADHD by Russell Barkley is a great resource! It helped me not get so frustrated with my child and have more compassion because they are dealing with this and it makes their life harder, not just my life. Also, When I started advocating for my child in school, I felt like his teachers started giving him more credit for things he does well instead of just looking at what was frustrating.

Like the others said, this is a great place to ask questions and just vent when it gets hard. We all understand :)

Watch this also by Russell Barkley. Gives you all the basics. Also, be sure to google his articles on emotional disregulation - a huge part of ADHD for many that is only getting attention now.

MapMeCoaching has a monthly Parent Support Group on the first Monday of each Month (via Google Meet). I've attended twice. Kellee usually presents on a topic affecting kids with ADHD (e.g. sleep), then opens it up for parents to discuss whatever they want. Price is free and info can be found on this page (bottom left): mapmecoaching.com/offerings.... I'd recommend this because you can learn about ADHD in bite-size nuggets. And share and listen as you feel comfortable.
