Experience w Strattera?

Looking to hear if anyone has had experience with their child on Strattera and Guanfacine (1mg). Thank you!

yes, we had a trial and it did not go well. my 9 year old was more agitated and it did not really help.

I can't address the guanfacine but I did clinical trials for Strattera some years ago with kids and adults. The results showed much better efficacy in the adults. The kids did much better on stimulants.

My grandsons cannot do stimulants. They get too angry. One is on Strattera for years both are on Guanfacine. They are both on additional meds for anxiety or depression.

Guanfacine was a miracle addition for both.

My son is on both Strattera and Guanfacine. He’s doing wonderful so far.

Thank you for reply. Did you notice effect of Strattera immediately? My son is “resting” after first dose and this is so unlike him!

You won’t see positive benefits from Strattera for typically 4-6 weeks.

I suggest starting at lowest dose, 10mg, and giving it a month before titrating up.

Just be careful. Suicidal ideation is higher for children, that’s why I suggested the lowest dose. A mom in one of my support groups started higher and ended up in the ER. Just pay close attention.

I’ve been on it for a while, it works for me but I do get slightly irritated. Also on antidepressants.

We tried it with my son and it helped a little, when we added 5mg of focalin (he’d used before but became ineffective on its own and 10mg was too much) the combo is great so far
